The room is decorated in butter yellow and red.
The inspiration was this floral fabric.
Daisies were the natural choice for a centerpiece. Miss Whimsy is the girl most likely to be married in a field of them...
Surrounded by butterflies.
The girl has had an unnatural affection for all things fluttery for as long as I can remember. She loves butterflies and dragon flies and lady bugs. When we decorated this room in middle school, she was way too old to litter a room with them. We had to secret them in subtly.
I've tried to do the same with this table.
See if you can find them.
OK, maybe not so subtle there...
How about here?
I made the napkins from leftover trim fabric from her room.
That’s the butterfly fold in case you can't tell.
The napkin rings belong to the Sister. I’m pretty sure they were a shower present from the Great Wedding Adventure of '82.
The dinner plates aren't subtle either.
They are decorative wall plates that I never bothered to hang on the wall.
I used a white charger to break up the busy pattern of the plate against the table.
Then I layered more plates to cover up the not-so-subtle butterflies.
The white plates with the scalloped edges are Carlsbad China from Austria.
I'm pretty sure they came from an estate sale.
I was trying to make it look all daisy~ish with the yellow bowl on the scalloped plate.
Can you tell?
The red salad plates came from K-Mart earlier in the year. They go with my new red kitchen. The butter yellow bowls came from Home Goods and belong to the Duchess.
Daisy soup...
And that's about it.
What a goofy way to spend my first day out of the classroom,
playing with dishes, and creating a table that absolutely no one will see.
Except you...
Oh well...
Tomorrow is another day.

Loved it, Katie Scarlet! This is just adorable, and I enjoyed your cyber table for two. So cute!
I enjoyed finding all the little buglettes, and I had to laugh about your daughter loving all things flittery. I was kind of that way, too, and I can remember a dance recital costume that bore a striking resemblance to a lady bug. ;-)
Love your red kitchen and all of your cute dishes, Debbie. And I love the little cloth and the cute napkins you made. You are GOOD! Wish I could do that.
This is a happy spring table, and I think you've invited dozens of people to lunch with the added advantage that you don't have to clean up!
XO,
Sheila :-)
P.S. That's what I love best about tablescaping! It's hospitality without all the pital. ;-)
Oh, it's sooo pretty! I love the little ladybugs scattered about. So pretty. All your plates are gorgeous! I wanna have pretty stuff just like you...someday. Maybe when I get rid off all the sippie cups. I love the mix of red and yellow. It's one of my very favorite color combinations! I also looove The Duchess's yellow bowls. I've GOT to go to Homegoods. It's just all so pretty! So much prettier than eating off a Bounty paper towel on the couch!
Yes, but isn't it fun?? So glad you took your day off to create such an adorable 'scape!! All the plates are great, but I especially love the one with the ladybugs, dragonflies, and butterflies! Great colors, and yes, I got it, with the yellow bowl in the center!! Great table runner, and napkins, when do you find the time to make those?? And by the way, "I'll excuse you for asking if you'll excuse me for not answering!" Wink, wink!!
All of Blogland will see your table Debbie! Very springy with the flowers and butterflies! And yep, I did catch the daisy effect with the scalloped edges and yellow bowl-cute:@)
Oh, how I enjoyed participating in your bug hunt, and the darling butterfly napkins. I am going to steal some of your fun ideas for a luncheon I am decorating for next week. Your colors and plates are so cheerful and yes, full of whimsy! I love what you do...I'm catching up here and your blog looks terrific, A+ work Debbie.
The table setting looks great! Ladybugs and butterflies are two of my grandkids favorites critters :-)
I just love the whole table and all the lovely insects. What is it about the checked red and white napkins,. I love them. You have a beautiful stack of plates and I enjoyed the visit. Joni
Beautiful tablescape as always! Thanks so much for sharing... I love all of the ladybugs! :)
That is such an inviting table... I love red, not to mention daisies and ladybugs! I don't think I've put that much effort into setting a table in a long time. I am now inspired.
Thank you for setting this table for all of us in Blogland. Love the red check with the floral. These are gorgeous textiles. All the little ladybug and butterfly details are charming. Cute idea with the yellow bowl on the white plates. Get it! ~ Sarah
What a charming table! I love the colors and the patterns you've used. Those plates are wonderful! I love color, and you've set a beautiful, colorful table.
Well, your new header -- which is great, BTW -- threw me off, and I didn't realize whose table I was commenting on! I'm glad you DID decide to set one this week!
Enjoyed your post whats not to like butterflys and lady bugs so cute
What a great table. Love the colors and the little adorable ladybugs.

How charming! Feel free to invite me over to share in your beautiful tablescapes!
I would much rather do the tablescape and not have to do all the cooking and especially the cleaning up. That part is no fun for me!
Oh I am so glad you set that table for us! It's such a delight. Truly an over the top, smile from ear to ear, singing at the top of my voice wonderful table. The fabric is to die for! Love the check trim and napkins too. Your dishes are perfectly chosen for the topper. Thank you so much for dropping in with your comments, I cherished every word.
This is the cutest spring table, Debbie! I love the tablecloth and napkins.
Everything is so beautiful. I especially love the gingham. I am your newest follower, looking forward to more posts. Diane
You got me, when you used Daisies for the center piece.
Thank you for setting this table for all of us. The red check and floral is great together. Ladybugs and butterflies are charming. I hope your lovely tablescape made you smile!
Well I loved the comment of her being married in a field of them...what a wonderful visual.
Now I have got to stop coming here because all I want to do when I leave if go buy more dishes...LOL...so much fun and you do such a great job! Now if I could only set a table for two.
Happy Birthday to your daughter...we have three birthdays here in April, oh my!
I think that's a great way to spend your day off! How pretty. Thank you for sharing your tablescape talents with all of us. :)
I think this is a great table. Save it for when your hubby gets home. I bet it will make him smile.
Beautiful table... bugs and all! lol I love ladybugs too! Those dishes meant for the wall are so colorful and beautiful - what a find!
Thanks for sharing your lovely tablescape. Mrs. S
At one time I designed dog clothes. For Halloween, I made Dickens, my four pound Yorkshire Terrorist, a ladybug costume, a butterfly costume, and a bumblebee costume....cause I like fluttery things, too. Dickens answers the door every year for trick or treat dressed in one of his flutter by suits. Cherry Kay
Debbie, thanks for stopping by. When I make the eggshell plant holders for Easter, I make them the week before Easter. I get the succulents from my garden, and just put them in the soil in the eggshell. You can always put pansies in the eggshell as an alternative. Let me know if you have any questions. Just be careful when you are cracking the eggs, and be prepared to have eggs for breakfast or baking :-)
Oh I love this, butterflies & ladybugs, subtle or not! What beautiful fabric for inspiration! I love the ladybug watering can & the daisy soup looks delicious :-)
A very pretty table! We do all see your lovely table! Thank you... May I suggest you use your table for two? I use mine for hubby and me or how about a darling daughter. Make it tea for two...for a friend. It is too beautiful a table to waste on just us! Although I do thank you...
Thank you for sharing your ladybugs and butterflies.....
Debbie,
Playing with a tablescape your first day out of school sounds like a perfectly fun thing to do and it is beautiful!
You KNOW I love the reds (my front rooms are actually Lady Bug red by Sherwin Williams :) and checks and yellows-so I was smitten :)
I don't have any "colored" dishes anymore, mine are all white- different patterns of ironstone. So I was actually thinking I might get a few colors I like and layer them like you do.
Simply lovely!
Be creative--be joyful! Have fun! Be whimsical!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MISS WHIMSY!!
~Love, me
This table was as adorable as Miss Whimsy. Again, a very Happy Birthday to her.
Loved this table, as always - I've always been a fan of ladybugs. I especially liked the red flatware. I guess I've always been a fan of red, too!
Can you send me the recipe for Daisy Soup? I'm lacking a little fiber in my diet...
I love ladybugs so I adore this table. Great job and Happy Birthday to Miss Whimsy! ;)

How sweet.. and of course I love the ladybugs! I'll be back. I'm your newest follower.

Right ON!!! Hey, Debbie...this table setting is 100% beautiful!!! It has great color combos and so many other great elements. I really love those butterfly napkin rings! That is the sweetest watering can, too, with the ladybugs on it! The buttery yellow color of the can is really pretty! Man, I wish you would have entered this on Mikasa's Facebook page for the giveaway I hosted! It would have been an incredible contender!!! It just SCREAMS spring, and it's gorgeous! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog with your well wishes. I am feeling better today, although still confined to the bed. Thank goodness for my husband's laptop...even if it IS slow as molasses! Have a great weekend!
Love that tablecloth and the plates with the butterflies on them. You always do such wonderful tablescapes! The butterfly napkin fold is perfect, and Daisy soup looks so cute. Now, I want to talk to you about you thinking that WE are nobody! We are a much more appreciative group than most of my family, and we very much enjoy seeing your tablescaping talents. laurie
Deb -- I'm so glad that you set this beautiful table just for us! This is so sweet -- love the cute ladybugs.
Your table for two is just stunning. I adore the table topper cloth and napkins that you made! You insprie me to sew, and that is a "good thing"!
Your beautiful tables tempt me to just go ahead and throw out all of the paper plates and cups that have become standard fare! No wonder I love Christmas and holidays... all of those beautiful things come out of the cupboards, get shined and polished and make such wonderful tables and serving areas. I take pictures every time and I am so proud of myself... so I wash them, put them back where they belong, and out comes the paper!
You are convicting me Debbie! Maybe enough to act, but for sure I'm thinkin'....
Well am I behind or what. I don't know what I enjoy more, the dishes or the wit in your writing. I do so love red and yellow together so as far as I'm concerned this setting is a home run. Just the perfect amount of whimsy to shout "LAURA". What a perfect way to start your time away from teaching.
You are SO clever and talented. I love it. Love the 'bugs' too - the only kind I like at all. It was lovely. sandie
