As I looked out the kitchen window this morning,
I discovered this.
I discovered this.
No, they aren't birds.
They're buds.
They're buds.
Those are the lower branches of our Japanese Magnolia.
Since the bottom of our tree generally lags a few days behind the top of it,
I had a hunch what was going on up above.
I went outside to look, and yep...
I had a hunch what was going on up above.
I went outside to look, and yep...
She's blooming, all right...
Isn't she lovely?
Makes me want to set a pink table.
and take a stroll outside with a shiny red Kodak.
So that's exactly what I did.
Enjoying the pink while it lasts is this week's simple pleasure.

Makes me want to set a pink table.
Yeah, I know it's really too early for the blossoms. There's probably some Arctic blast headed our way to zap her into oblivion before she reaches her full potential. That's the way it usually rolls around here.
All the more reason to stop cleaning and craftingand take a stroll outside with a shiny red Kodak.
So that's exactly what I did.

Wow, really beautiful.
Hi Debbie,
We have one of these trees in front of our dining room window. I'm going to go outside and check the status on it now. :)
They are a bit on the delicate side, aren't they? We've been in this house going on 16 yrs. now, and we've only had it bloom really nicely about every three years or so. You're right; it is too early for them to bloom. I saw some Japanese Cherry trees blooming in Greensboro (east of us) earlier this week.
Love these pictures; thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend!
Denise
Lovely indeed. Hope you share their blooming progression.
What a beautiful tree! I've always wanted one of those. Maybe I'll plant one this spring.
I don't know what's going on but even my roses are in bud. Like you say, we could very well still get a cold snap and kill all of the blossoms or maybe we've just skipped winter this year (scary thought).
So funny, but I have done and re-done my hutch the past couple of weeks, finding fault with everything and just today I decided to forego the all white look, Valentine's decorations, and do it up with my magnolia dishes as I am ready for spring! Even though we are having a very blessed winter so far. Enjoy them for however long they are around. Carpe diem! xo
OH. MY. GOODNESS...That is just a GORGEOUS tree...I have never seen one like it. And to have it right out of your kitchen window? Well no wonder you were drawn out there. Sooo pretty. Have a wonderful week-end Debbie HUGS
Absolutely gorgeous, glad you noticed it! Enjoy the great color in January:@)
How very pretty ~ and so perfect for a simple pleasure on a January day. God likes to delight us like that.
Thanks for sharing. Things are blooming around here really early.
We have daffodils already.
Debbie, If I were you, I'd pick a few and bring them in, it's going to be below freezing tomorrow night. The Duchess
Such a lovely tree and a wonderful simple pleasure. Glad you took the time to notice it. I've been noticing my daffodils blooming, too. I probably need to take a stroll around the yard and check everything else. I think a pink table in January would be wonderful. Just sayin'...
Debbie, this is exquisite! Happy Pink Saturday! and thanks so much for the visit!
Oh how beautiful...thanks for sharing..I was just thinking this week that I was ready for the buds, the trees have looked so bad since our summer drought, and now we have had rain...so I hope they will bud soon.
Thanks for sharing...so beautiful...I love God's creation!
It is so beautiful to see now - ones of ours is blooming - but do you think they will be surprised this winter? Your Japanese Magnolia is beautiful. Enjoy.
sandie♥
What a nice surprise! I need to look at mine to see if it's doing anything. Poor thing struggled this past summer because of the drought. I don't know if it's even alive now.
Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing your Japanese Magnolia.

That is gorgeous! I don't think I've ever seen one of those around here. So, so, so pretty!
You are right about the arctic blast. That's how things go around here too.
Those are soooo pretty! Isn't Mother Nature amazing? I hope you do not get any arctic blast and they can live on...

She is gawgeous! I guess great minds think alike. I've been noticing many simple pleasures lately. Need to document them.
Oh, so pretty! Funny, I really did think I was first looking at birds. They certainly would make for a gorgeous centerpiece for a pink tablescape but I think I'd be sooo hesitant to cut any from the branches too! Thanks so much for sharing this. Simply beautiful indeed!
Wow Debbie. you live in an amazing area. I did think at first they were birds.....but when you zoomed in and I saw they were buds.....beautiful ones....my jaw dropped. I wish I could stand underneath and feel their beauty. But....your pictures are great. Have a great weekend yakking lady. I love it when you yak about stuff.
Simply beautiful! What a treat for you to look out the window!
So glad you let us share what great beauty you have every day.
What gorgeous blossoms and pictures! The promise of spring around the corner! Yay!
So beautiful and so early too. Magnolias are very classy don't you think? We have one (a cream petal variety) in our front garden but we'll have to wait a long time yet before we see any blooms on it.
What beautiful blooms!! Thank you for showing us these pink beauties. I hope that they stick around to reach their full potential!

How beautiful! I have one way over here in Australia too! Yours is way bigger and your blooms are stunning! X
Wow, way to show-off your amazing pin blooms. I'm sure your heart is full with all of that loveliness.
I do hope you heeded the advice of that "Anonymous" Duchess and brought a few blooms inside before the freeze. :-) They really are a beautiful simple pleasure. So glad you shared them!
Oh, Debbie, this is breathtaking in pictures, I can only imagine in person. WOW! Yes, there are times when wow is the right word. :) Thank you for sharing.
Blessings!
You will have to help me close my mouth as I was so surprised to see something so springy! What a beautiful tree. We won't have blooms for a couple of months here. Have a great day! Joni
Simply beautiful...enjoy, enjoy!
I would have been out there with my camera too.
Beautiful! I hope they last for you! Keep us updated!
Katherine
How pretty! I am always torn between joyful surprise when something blooms early and a twinge of sadness knowing the bloom isn't likely to last when cold returns. Glad you caught this with your camera and shared it with all of us!
What a beautiful tree, I've never seen nor heard of it. Fabulous color. thanks for giving us a peek.
Hugs,
Patti
Wow.... that is absolutely amazing! I have never seen that tree before. It's beautiful! I saw a tree here in Tx in full spring bloom. I couldn't believe it. It's only January, we've just had some really crazy warm weather. Anyway, lovely post! Hope you had a great weekend!

Beautiful beautiful beautiful, Debbie!
God does some of His best work in PINK, in my humble opinion! I love how He gives us little signs of the coming springtime, even in the middle of winter.
Hmmm...
Kinda like He does in life, huh?!
GOD BLESS!
Oh wow! I used to have these in Virginia. They were always blooming with the daffodils...first thing!
