The Easter Blues

In case you didn't notice, I've been on recess from Blog Land for over a week. There wasn't one good reason for it, either.

There were two good reasons.
One very Practical, and the other Whimsical.

Yessiree folks, I had not one but two daughters home for the long holiday weekend. In anticipation, I took the week before Easter to get everything practically perfect in every way.   Then I took two days after Easter to recover from the aforementioned over-achievement.

Now, originally, I had planned a pink Easter,  I'd even purchased a pastel plaid tablecloth as my inspiration piece. As I was going through my dishes, however, I found these little dessert plates.

I bought them at TJMaxx for Easter last year, and honestly...
I had nearly forgotten that I had them.

Don't you think they match those eggs I decoupaged
on my eggcellent adventure?

Yeah, me too.
So I took them off my mantel and  decided to call this one The Easter Blues instead.
We set not one but two Easter tables
with the same place setting.

The blue plaid salad plates came from Good Will about a year ago. They are one of the few decent things I've ever found at ours. The dinner plate is Italian Countryside,
and the charger is one that I painted for my Yellow Year theme.

Told  ya I would get a lot of use out of those yellow chargers...

For Friday night's dinner,
I used a plain blue cotton table cloth and yellow cotton napkins.

The stemware was Aurora Blue by Denby,
from the Great Wedding Adventure of '84.
In full disclosure, we actually just used one stem.
I added the others for  blog bling.

Then, on Saturday night,
I changed the blue tablecloth with (my favorite) vintage yellow and white one.
Have I mentioned how much I love vintage linens?
Probably.

The tablecloth has matching napkins.
I layered  them with plain white linen ones for extra poof.

Plus, we can use the plain ones and save wear and tear on the vintage ones.

Yes, that's a decoupaged napkin ring to go with the table.

I had purchased some ceramic rings for a dollar a bunch at a recent thrift sale, but I wasn't all that fond of their pattern. I primed and painted them and did the same technique on them that I did on the eggs.

I love them.

Aside from the linens, everything pretty much stayed the same.

Same old Act I by Oneida. I really need to get out of that rut, don't I?

Same Stemware

Same flowers, but I wrapped this vase in a yellow checked napkin for a little color.

And there you have it. Our Easter Blues table
done two different ways.

The second one is my favorite.
How about you?

As of today, that table still resides in the dining room where I reset it for pictures, eggs and all. The daughters, however, have returned to college and career.  The Practical One landed in DC a few minutes ago. When we'll all be together again, I really don't know.

Which makes me a kinda like my Easter table. You know... trying to find the yellow, but still just a little bit  blue

I'm Dishing with Cuisine Kathleen this evening. I want to thank Kathleen again for  the Target gift card I won at her St. Patrick's Day Blog Crawl. I'll be dishing on my purchase as soon as I make it!

I'll also be on The Porch tomorrow.

Hey girl. Love the tables that you set for your family. I know that your girls have to feel very special that you take the time to "do things up for them".

Sorry you are a little blue. I can only imagine when the day comes that mine are gone. Will you pray for me when that time comes? Hope both the girls are doing great.

I knew you must have been enjoying your "full" nest again with both of your girls home. These years of grown up girls are so much fun ~ although bittersweet with them up and leaving just when you get used to having them around!
I know you'll be in the "pink" again soon. {sorry ~ couldn't resist more color}

You won't believe this but I actually HAD the entire set of those dishes in my early years of marriage when everything in my kitchen was blue! I LOVED them...however they didn't love me and maybe because I used them for everyday which with 3 little boys was kind of dumb. But they were always breaking, chipping, etc., and eventually they were just too horrid and I got rid of them. I wish now I had kept some of the dessert plates at least. I loved them then, and I still do. I like the second table a tid bit better than the first, though they are both wonderful. I love the vintage tablecloth and napkins too. As for your girls being gone and you being blue, boy do I ever get that. : ( Hope your feeling better about it soon. HUGS

How beautiful and a good occasion to take a break from blogging (but you were missed). Your table is beautiful I want to eat at your house!

Welcome back. I truly understand about the blues. I get them every time mine leaves to go home. So happy at least one of "our" girls relocated around the corner. Love both tables. The vintage linens are beautiful as is the napkin ring but the pop of blue is pretty too! Great job.

I think I have the same blue plates but I think mine are salad plates. I guess great minds think alike, huh...

So glad you are back! I was worried that you might be gone forever :) I should have known your chicks would return to you for the holiday, so happy you had time together. I love the blue/yellow themes and I really love the napkins rings and plates that match your eggs. Thanks for sharing. Hope you had a great visit and Easter. P.S. Since I saw your painted chargers I have been on the hunt for some. Apparently they are as elusive as a winning lotto ticket in my area!

So glad you had such a wonderful visit! Your tables are great...and you take such beautiful pictures, I never seem to catch mine right on the camera.

I did, however, with 11 of us for Easter, found out I need to add to my china...yes, my 32 year old china is discontinued, and I need salad and bread plates...so I had to mix other dishes...luckily I was practical when I married and to add to it won't break the bank. Now just to have all those boys enjoy my table...LOL, that might be an impossible dream...but the food was good!

Thanks for showing and inspiring such beautiful tables.

Glad the girls got back safe!

I wanna know: do you REALLY eat on that table after you decorate it so pretty? I would not let ANYONE come near it :)

Debbie said...

We did actually eat on these tables. If you ate my cooking, you would know how necessary it is to camouflage it with pretty dishes.

Hi, Debbie,
Thanks for your sweet comments about Mom.
Now, as for your table, I do love the way you did both tables, but have to agree, I like the second table a little better. Blue and yellow are so pretty, no matter how you combine them.

Now, your table is fabulous, yes it goes great with your eggs. i like the table setting more than the food prep, I changed my tablecloth twice! sounds like it was a great time!!

"blog bling" LOL Now how else would do such a thing??!!! *wink*

Both tables look delightfully springy & I ♥♥♥ your decoupaged eggs & napkin rings. You did a great job on both.

I fully understand your feelings as your DD's return to their own nests. When we lived in FL, I would go into a deep funk after every visit, because I knew it would be months before I would see them again. Now I can run over to their home anytime!!! ~~big grin~~

Oh Debbie - I know there is nothing better then kids coming home. And having both at the same time is like a miracle.

I think all your blues were beautiful - I really can't pick my favorite - each one was so different and unique in it's own way.

The only blue I didn't like - because I know it too - is when they left.

Your new salad plates are so pretty & they layered up perfectly with your other plates. They are such a great compliment to your eggs.

You got me at Blue and had me at Yellow!

The best color combination ever!
I'm going back up to re-look at your tables, wow!

If something works, stick with it! The Oneida is a great work horse and, let's face it, that's part of the reason we buy things in the first place: because it'll look good with so many settings!!! You're right about the eggs...a perfect complement to the plates! I can't believe you actually decoupaged all those napkin rings! Wow...what fortitude!!! Both tables are beautifully done. It's always good to show how just a little change can go a long way in making a table look different. Have a great weekend, and I hope you are able to fully recover from your over-achieving ways soon! :-)

Someone made me stop kissing a baby (and a 2-yr-old) and return home, so now I'm finally stopping by for a visit. I like both of your Easter tables, but you know I'm like you when it comes to vintage linens! I'm sure your girls enjoyed the results of your labors, and I'm so glad they were both able to be home to celebrate Easter with you.

Blue and yellow are a favorite color combination of mine, so I love both tables. I love the way you just re-do something when you need a different color for your table. The yellow chargers and those napkin rings are brilliant, and I love that your beautiful eggs are so perfect with you china. Very well done! laurie

Oh - you are an inspiration! I just picked up a couple place settings mixing and matching at a thrift store in blue and yellow and a sweet green! Just need to find the tea service to match it.

Problem is - I am quickly running out of room with all my thrifty collections for tea posts this year - What can I do about that??? Where on earth d o you keep all your marvelous settings - and for more than two!!??

Joy!
