Simply Nauseating

I don't have anything earth shattering to report this morning. No giant steps. No long jumps into the Stepping Out hall of fame. The only thing I've stepped into is a pair of walking shoes.

I've mentioned before that morning walks with the husband are among my simple pleasures. I even mentioned that winter walks are my favorite walks of all. That's because I get to dress up like the Unibomber and walk incognito.

We haven't been doing much walking lately.

I'd like to blame it on the Christmas busyness or the fact that I married a traveling man, but I can't. I'd also like to blame the fibro pain that seems to have settled in my feet of all places, but I can't do that either.

The plain truth is that the only legitimate way to combat fibromyalgia is to move through it. With fibro, less is more and more is less. The less you move, the more you hurt, and the more you move the less you hurt.

No, pain isn't the reason that I haven't been walking; it's the excuse. Laziness is the reason.

There. I said it.

So yesterday morning, I put on my walking shoes and limped out the door with my faithful companion at my side. Bet you think that's what this post is all about, don't you?

Well, it isn't.

It's about what happened after the walk. We were turning into the driveway, you see, when the husband looked up and said,

Looks like we missed an opportunity.

And then, he pointed.

Can you see it?

It's mistletoe... Smack dab in the middle of our Bradford pear.  It had probably been there for months, but it was hiding under all the leafy stuff.

Now folks,  I know that the Christmas season is over, but mistletoe is mistletoe, and in my world every season is smooching season. So I planted myself under that Kissing Tree and gave him the face until he got the clue.

Stepping out has it privileges.

In fact, I enjoyed the privilege so much that I convinced him to walk again after dinner. We walked  this morning, too, and I have plans for a little blue hour stroll.

I'm convinced that my feet feel better already, and we still have one more morning before he leaves to go out of town.  At this rate, I'll be wearing stilettos by Valentine's Day.

That would be just about how long he's willing to leave the mistletoe undisturbed in the tree, too. He may be a romantic, but he's a left- brained romantic. Apparently, mistletoe is actually a parasite, and he thinks it ought to be whacked back before budding season.  He has  promised to leave just a little bit, though, if I promise to keep walking.

So there you have it:

Why Sir Lotsa Hair Kissed the Unibomber and Nauseated the Neighborhood.

Otherwise known as this week's
  simple pleasure.

Loved your post today. Good for you getting out and walking. We have too many ice and snow spots for a walk in my neighborhood but I do enjoy water aerobics three times a week at the indoor pool.

That's the best kind of motivation for walking, isn't it? :) I'm sorry hubby's going to cut the mistletoe out of the tree, but I do understand his reasoning.

Boy do I understand about needing to exercise. I used to love to walk, and now it seems like a chore. It's all my own fault; just like you said, pure laziness. I'll just be so glad to get this Christmas stuff put away for another year so that life can get back to normal. I feel like it's taking me forever. Again, whose fault is that?

Keep walking so you can feel good. You can inspire the rest of us! Have a wonderful day, Debbie!!

I love being grossed out by smoochers. It's simply nauseating. Oh, yeah!

Love this! I'm sure he loved it too...the kissing that is. :)
I have something amazing to share with you.
I was told by my dr. that I had fibromyalgia. For me most of the pain was in the muscles in my right upper back and the right side of my neck. Attacks would cause horrific migraines and flu like feeling. Even on the prescribed meds, weekly episodes were often my norm.

In early November, we had Tom and Donna Cole, authors of Pure Heart, come to our church for a weekend of ministry. They lead people through dealing with mother wounds, father wounds, forgiveness, and identity issues. Since we spend so much time counseling people in these areas it was great to have someone else lead the majority of our church through healing in these areas. The Hubs and I participated right along with our people.

I knew God was dealing with me and healing me in the area of forgiveness. I know to forgive readily, but that doesn't mean forgiveness really penetrated my heart.

I know body, soul and spirit are connected in ways known only to God, but I had no idea, that when God helped me to forgive and really release the person I had issues with to Him, that I would be healed in my body as well.

I have had no migraines or fibro. attacks since that weekend!

I AM NOT saying this to imply you need to forgive someone or any such thing. What I wanted to do by writing this is to say PRAISE GOD! I am so thankful for His healing in my heart and body. :)

A have a left-brained romantic, too, and he would react just as yours did. Made me smile.

What a very sweet motivation that is! I have to ask...if you left it what would happen. Does it hurt the tree? Or you? I have no idea. Enjoy it as long as you can, hee he and Happy Walking!

I wouldn't be a nauseated neighbor, I'd be cheering you on!

I had no idea that fibro can cause foot pain, but my feet are killing me. And I don't want to walk so I guess that I shall suffer. Maybe it's just gout. =D

Happy walking you cutie, you!

I know how hard it is for you to exercise through the pain but I'm really glad you're starting to feel better because of it. I'm guessing the smooching had nothing to do with it, right?

Thanks for the laugh. Love your wit.

Yes ma'am to everything! Kissing, mistletoe being a parasite (darn!), walking, and a travelin' man being at home -- and to improved fibro pain, too! I've been far too lazy myself lately, so thanks for setting such a great example.

Guess what I am doing tomorrow? Yep first walk in about 7 months. My friends think I have abandoned them, but NO the truth of the matter is, I am too busy blogging and my butt looks it. Love your pics.

Loved this post! And I'm glad your fibro pain is feeling better ~ lots of points to you for getting out there and working through the pain!

What really nauseates me is people who can take something so simple as a walk and fibro (not that fibro is really simple) and turn it in to a humorous, entertaining post--I'm jealous of your writing skills--smile!

Great post--I loved it!

I am SO smiling at this! Adorable story. And I totally applaud your walking dedication. I also want to make that a priority in my life this year. I walked one day last week, almost slipped in the icy snow, and haven't walked since. (That is no excuse - the fact of the matter is that I'm lazy. There. I said it).

I think the Unabomber is pretty cute, just sayin...

Love this post! We have a huge clump of mistletoe in one of our oak trees in the front yard. It's so high up that I couldn't get any down for Christmas...guess I should have dragged Hubby outside under the tree. Thanks for the idea and for a fun post.
Hugs,
Babs

Loved this post, Dh and I have been walking for a week, I have used every excuse in the book to not walk, but he just won't let me get out of it, after the walk I always say, "thank you for pushing me". Now I will be looking for mistletoe, put with encouragement like his, I really don't need it. lol.
Glad your feet are feeling better, just keep pushing.

Mistletoe! And here I thought some local hoodlums were tossing Christmas trees around and one got stuck! lol

Glad to hear the walks are helping you feel better!

I was looking rather unibomber-ish myself bundled up walking the dogs this morning with the colder weather :) Love your witty commentary, enjoy the mistletoe!

Awe what a sweet sweet story. Now I had no idea how mistletoe grew nor that it grew in southern GA!

Good for you to walk and good for y'all to kiss.

I will give you a hint - do the walking the first thing when you get up and do it every day Monday thru Friday to develop a HABIT - lol.

You look cute.

If more people saw you kissing your hubby under the mistletoe, it might just catch on and save some marriages. I'm thinking we all probably need to smooch our spouses a little more and everyone would be happier.

I agree with Amy, above!
What a delightful post, Debbie! And you might be incognito, but you are still looking good!
I have been committed to exercise the last couple of years, because if I skip it, I hurt. (no diagnosis of fibromyalgia, thank God)
I like to look at Mister and smile for 10-20 seconds because he cannot resist kissing me if I do. Wherever we may be!

Great post Debbie, glad you were able to go out for a stroll with your hubby before he leaves. Nice that HE was the one to notice the mistletoe.

Hopefully today your feet are dancing for another walk.

Oh Debbie, you crack me up! Your great attitude; your keen observation of what's around you; and your sense of humor just delight me every time I visit. I've never seen real mistletoe, and I had no idea it was a parasite. Obviously, it is a parasite worth having if even the unibomber can get kissed under it! laurie

Too funny! Now I feel compelled to go for a walk with my hubby and search the trees for mistletoe. :)

Thanks for the inspiration!

My husband and I walk every morning too! Good for you for getting out for your walk.

I didn't know that about mistletoe. Most of the trees around here have a bit of it. People shoot it out of the trees at Christmas :)

Keep on truckin'! And kissing too, I'm sure it burns tons of calories and releases endorphines too. I'm pretty sure it doesn't do any good to cut out the mistletoe if there is any more anywhere in the area and especially if you leave part of it in the tree. But you might do some research.

Well since you posted this on my birthday and it took me days to get here and then I had scroll down for hours comment, LOL ...I agree!!! I have got to put aside my excuses and put on my walking shoes. I need to...I have a wedding coming in six weeks, and I need to be able to chase around that new 2 year old grandson...so you have inspired me.

You husband is more like mine more than you could imagine. Salesmen!!!

Enjoy those new Valentine shoes..and keep up the walking.

Debbie, I am so sorry about your mother-in-law, what a beautiful posting. I know I am not supposed to post about that because you closed your comments....I love your non-comparison to Ruth and Naomi. This post is sooo cute. When we lived in CA we had lots of mistletoe in our ancient oak trees and never, ever did I think of kissing under it. What lost opportunities. All I thought about was how much it was going to cost me to take it out. We never did though, but it is really a bad parasite. Joni
