The New Year Blues

If you're thinking that this blue table is an introduction for my color of the year,
 you'll have to think again.

My color is not blue.

I just happen to think that blue is a very New Year-sy color.  It goes well with silver, and silver makes me think of bells...

And silver bells make me think of ringing in the New Year.

I don't know why. I have never once walked around ringing a bell on New Year's Eve, have you?

A blue table lets me use my (favorite) Aurora Blue stemware by Denby

And it looks pretty  against the Italian Countryside.

Blue also goes well with this nifty mercury glass globe
that my niece gave me for Christmas.

I don't think she intended for me to stick a paper tiara on it,
 but I did.

She did suggest that I put lights under it to make it twinkle so I did that too.

I think it looks festive that way.

The husband thinks it looks like E.T..

Or possibly a polar bear at the Waldorf Astoria.

Regardless, it made for a festive New Year's Eve centerpiece.

Too bad nobody sat at it.

I just set it on New Year's Eve because I felt like it, and I'm posting it today for the very same reason.

In truth, our New Year's Eve was actually one for the Fuddy Duddy Hall of Fame. We ate our meal on trays in the den and watched You've Got Mail while waiting for the ball to drop.  (For the record, that movie is just as good the 100th time as it is the first, and yes...it is entirely possible to cry each time.)

Just before midnight, I grabbed the party hat off the alien polar bear and counted down to the  New Year kiss.  Then, we said goodnight to the invisible table people and headed to up to bed. Happy New Year!

Glad the cops didn't shut us down.

So, what did you do for New Year's Eve?

I'll be sharing with Cuisine Kathleen at Let's Dish!

The mercury glass globe is magical.
The table is gorgeous.
I just don't do tablescapes unless they are going to be used. But then, they don't usually look amazing like yours.
What did we do for New Year's? Had a little argument and then I went to bed at 10pm. Woohoo.
But Mister did make some great seafood for dinner.

Pretty much the same, only I had a dog on my lap most of the night until the the fireworks had finished.
Angus is very frightened of fireworks and thunder, and people in our area all seem to like them, trouble is they are still letting them off at two so Angus spent the night under my bed I draw the line at him sleeping in the bed.

What a cool blue table, love the ball with the New Year's crown. I used to ring noisemakers, and blow little metal horns, on NYE, when I was much younger, had more money, actually got all dolled up and went out with a bunch of friends to fancy schmancy places. Those days are over, although I did go out last year to my friend's community party at the 55+ development. My, how things change. Happy New Year, Deb! xo

I am such a blue girl Debbie, this table is perfect for New Years. Ya did better then I did in the staying up department...I was out like a light by ten.

Gorgeous! I love blue and silver together. What a shame you didn't have guests to sit at that beautiful table!
We went out for dinner with 3 other couples, AT 5 PM! LOL It was the only reservation we could get. It was very nice, cozy place, food was good. A little bit of a splurge $ wise, but everything on NYE is here in NY!
We were home by 8 30!
A very blessed 2013 to you, dear Debbie! Good health and many blessings!

I think our picture is right next to yours in the fuddy duddy hall of fame! Early dinner, watched random new years eve celebrations on tv, rang in the new year with a prayer and a kiss. Not too bad after all. :)

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that I love your blue table and that sparkly centerpiece!!!

Debbie, your table is beautiful, as always!! We didn't even make it past 10 PM!! LOL! The ball dropped without us. Fuddy - Duddies for sure. And, yes, that movie IS good! Wishing you all the best! blessings ~ tanna

I am proud of you Debbie, you are off to a great start with your posting, just keep them coming ~smile, Me, I am still at the starting gate, and don't know how long I will be stuck there.

Your tablescape is beautiful, our New Year's eve, was more lay back than yours but was very similar, It's a Wonderful Life was playing at our house. Just love this movie, but just once I would like for DH and I to not go to sleep while watching...See, I told you ours was more lay back.lol
Hugs,
Sue

LOL! We didn't have an overly exciting New Year's eve either. We ordered Chinese Food and had a Resident Evil movie marathon. Missed the dropping of the peach because we were in the last few minutes of the movies but managed to shout Happy New Year and exchanged kisses.

I love Meg Ryan's apartment in that movie! I think I watch it for the apartment and the dog!

As always, your table setting is just gorgeous. The mercury glass ball is amazing!

Debbie~ I love your New Year's Blues table, complete tiara wearing globe! It's a shame not one sat there although it's fun to set the table regardless! Our New Year's Eve was a snooze-fest and we rarely last til the ball drops :) Wishing you a Happy & Healthy 2013!

Lovely blues. Your celebration sounded as exciting as ours. We sat around and listened to fireworks in the distance ... those brave enough to get out in the pouring rain. Woo Hoo!

Happy New Year, friend!

I love the table and I love the blue. Sometimes a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do even if that means having a pretend fancy dinner.

I came across an outdoor tablecloth - 2 actually that I made for the deck folding tables when we have parties. I thought about putting them out and setting them. Can you imagine??? Our deck is either wet, icy or snowy but I was in the mood for an outdoor BBQ. And I had NOT been drinking the cooking wine. :)
It just feels so good to set a special table.

Tray tables and letting the ball drop? Wow, you crazy kids really did paint the town :) We went to bed early - Steve had to be at work at 5:30 am and the only celebration around us was the neighbor kids shooting off fireworks at midnight.

I love your 'blue' table, but it didn't make me feel blue at all.

We stayed home and all four of us watched the ball drop together - it was awesome. Glad you had a good time too.

Oh my gosh, you sure gave me a good laugh! we had three grandkids spend the night and I was asleep with the 5 year old granddaughter next to me, before midnight!! I do LOVE your table though, even if no one sat at it. It sure looks pretty and I'm loving that mercury ball all lit up. Happy 2013!!

Debbie said...

Oh I loved all the blue. And your right, blue is just New Yearish, haha.

Ours was pretty laid back. Hubby bbq'd some steaks and then we both dozed off watching a movie, lol. Such live wires over here.

I totally concur about "You've Got Mail" being just as good no matter how many times you've seen it! I LOVE that movie!!! I have literally sat and watched it several times in a row!!! It is one of my all-time favorites! When I closed my shop several years ago, I fancied myself as Kathleen, walking down the street to my car with the bell that hung on the door since the day I opened. I LITERALLY walked with my head kind of down and with the bell softly ringing by my side. Now here's where it gets weird. I deliberately wore a skirt, sweater, tights and loafers to the shop that final day so I'd look kind of like her! This was all planned! How sick am I?!?!?!?!!? Anyhooooo....I love the whole look of your table whether it was for real guests or imaginary ones. (Perhaps Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox? F-o-x.) :-) The baby's breath is light and airy and perfect with the lighted globe. ET? Really? Please give your husband the following message: "C'mon dude!" Very pretty, Debbie! Oh..and Happy New Year!

E.T. - phone home.

Lovely table. I think blue and white are New Year-sy, too.

Well, "The Hub" and I went to a New Year's Eve party at the house of one of our two (only two) next-door neighbors. The meal she cooked was delicious! But, the *libations* flowed, and the party was...well, let's just say "boisterous". Bottles of wine and singing "House of the Rising Sun" at the piano (at jet engine decibels) is not my idea of a great time...just sayin'. We came home before midnight to watch that little ball come down, and then, we also called it a night.

So, Mrs. Sly and Mysterious. WHEN are you going to reveal your color and theme? Hmmm??

This invisible person is just dying with anticipation...

Oh, I was hoping blue was the color...it's my all time favorite color. ever.
We actually ventured out this year and went to a small birthday party and then to another friend's home and left by 11:00 as miss b. was falling asleep in her chair. We did stay up to see the ball drop and watch Jenny McCarthy act like a crazy lady.

I totally agree that blue and silver are great New Years colors! I do tablescapes all the time that no one sits at -- so what does that say about me? As for being boring, we've totally got you beat at our house! Can't wait to learn what your color of the year is. (I knew it wasn't blue.) :-)

I'm right there with you, at the Fuddy Duddy Hall of Fame front door, Debbie. One (OK, 2) glasses of wine and I'm dozing on the couch in my flannel pjs. (Cute, not.)
Can't wait to learn the 2013 color finalist. Crossing my fingers it's green!

Oh you fuddy duddy! LOL! I have no room to talk though. I had to work New Years day so spent my evening doing much of the same as you with the exception of listening to all the fireworks going off long before midnight from our neighbors. I was also treated to a lot of yelling and screaming from the neighbors at midnight who had also been celebrating the Clemson bowl game. Boy, they were loud! Your tablescape is very pretty. I love silver and blue together as well. I think your niece had a wonderful idea on the globe too. Happy New Year!

Hi Debbie, I think that if all of us who stay home with our hubbies on New Year's Eve got together for a party we would have to rent a huge ballroom! I'm finished with the NYC crowds and have trouble making it to the ball drop now, especially as I seem to rise earlier each day! I was oohing and ahhing over your gorgeous table and that beautiful ball but then had to burst out laughing with your commentary!!!! I'm sure your niece was not thinking "oh, tiara" when she gave you the ball, or maybe she was if she knows you well! Happy New Year to you and your honey and all the imaginary guests who dine at your house! Thank goodness for them--they keep us very entertained! Linda

I think silver and blue scream New Years, too. Your table is beautiful. The mercury ball is so pretty and festive. (Your niece has great taste. She must get that from her mom). I think it's perfectly acceptable to set a table for invisible people.

You know that movie is my all time favorite. I have been known to watch it over and over. I even cry every time, too.

Visited with friends on NYE but we were home and asleep by 11. We're in the fuddy duddy club for sure.

Hi Debbie,

I love your table -- you always do the best tablescapes! Your New Year's Eve sounds like most of ours for the last ten years. :) We did stay awake until midnight -- had a New Year's toast and kiss. We're not ones to paint the town, either.

Now I have a confession to make; I've never seen "You've Got Mail." I know, I know -- I must be the alien ET in the group. I've seen "Sleepless in Seattle" many times; I just love it. The humor, romance, music, everything. My mom mentioned "You've Got Mail" when it first came out because I worked at a bookstore for 4 years, and I totally love books. I don't know how it is that I still haven't seen it. Now I'm going to have to get it from Netflix.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful table. I, too, think that blue and silver look like New Year's Eve, and winter in general. You're off to a great tablescaping start for 2013!

XO,

Denise

With all that noise and ruckus, I am surprised the cops didn't shut you down. I was loving the table and then hubby wrecked it by saying it looked like ET and now all I can see is ET! It's still pretty! I love "You've got mail" sooo cute. OK, so the color is not blue...WE're waiting!!!

I should have read this post sooner--now here it is the 3rd and I can't remember what we did the 31st! LOL

Love your blue table--and my kitchen that I remodeled this past year and painted the walls "grey" after trying 26 paint colors--well, it is blue and the table would look beautiful in it!

Happy New Year!

So pretty, Debbie. Love the idea of the tierra on the orb, and I love those blue stems. I can't verify your assertion about the
100th time, but I can say it is possible to cry after 25 times. Happy 2013! laurie

Your blue table is very pretty...looks icy blue, perfect for the winter new year.
You've Got Mail is one of my favorite movies too, and yes, I cry each time Tom Hanks shrugs his shoulders as he passes the roses in Central Park and Meg tilts her head and gets watery eyes with that sweet little smile.
I must admit, I fell asleep at 11:57, can you believe?

Dearest Debbie,

Your table is beautiful! I love the Italian Countryside pattern...been looking at them for several years. My dish love addiction is in check so far - I have not purchased any!

I love "You've Got Mail." I haven't watched it for several years...will have to remedy that!

We had a big party on New Year's - a Ball in fact, to celebrate my daughter's birthday on New Year's Day. She is 21 years old now. It was a fabulous night!

I'm giving you a novel so I'll close now.

Happy New Year!
