Happy! Happy! Happy!

Here's a tidbit I've never shared on here:
 I despise reality TV.

Really, on my list of things to watch, it comes below the Home Shopping Network and reruns of Good Times. I just don't get it.

For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would want to Keep Up with a family whose sole talent appears to be posing for People magazine and naming their children after cardinal directions.   Those Real Housewives of Wherever are all unreal to my way of thinking... and don't even get me started on Honey Boo Boo. The fact that she lives about an hour from here both embarrasses and annoys me.

Not. A. Fan.

So why am I a fan of a  bunch of duck hunters from Louisiana who haven't shaved in, well, ever?

I dunno...
They just quack me up.

Blame it on the Newlywed niece. She discovered the show one lonely night when Lt. McNephew was deployed.  Before she knew it, she was hooked. (Maybe it was the camouflage...)  Then, she managed  to infect the entire family, including the Duchess,  with the duck virus.

The reason is simple, and it can be summed up in three words:
Faith, Family, Ducks...in that order

First, I love how they aren't afraid to share their faith.
They don't just profess it, either;  they actually live it.

Second, I love their commitment to family.

If you've read here long, you know that I'm all about the multi-generational family. My favorite part of the show is when they gather around the family table at the end  for the patriarchal prayer. Then, Willie does a voice- over tying it all together, and just for a moment, America seems right again.

And then, we have the ducks.

The ducks are the inspiration for this table.  Yep. Just in case you hadn't noticed, this isn't exactly a pretty table this week. The colors won't pop.  They aren't supposed to... we're in the duck blind, people. Try to keep up.

The place setting is black, beige, brown, and green,
and we even did a little duck-ou-flage on the chargers.

See? You almost missed them,  didn't you?

A burlap tablecloth and some rustic flatware

Some mason jars for our tea 'cause that's the way they roll around that table.

Well, all except Uncle Si. He's a bring-your-own-tumbler kind of guy, and he's been hauling around that same blue tumbler since his mom sent it in a care package to 'Nam.

Uncle Si tells all kinds of stories about 'Nam...

Some of them are 95% accurate, too.

Please note that our redneck wine glasses aren't filled with anything at all.  We would have served some of Willie's Mallard Merlot, but we couldn't get any takers.

And those aren't bows on the stems... they're beards.

I was supposed to build a little duck blind for the centerpiece,  but apparently I'm what  Phil Robertson would call a  yuppy girl from the subdivision. I couldn't get it to look right.

I stuck a potted plant in there instead.

And that's all she wrote.

Just a fun little table to get us in the mood for the opening of
Duck Dynasty Season 4
tonight
(A&E, 10:00 PM)

If you've never tried the show, may I suggest you give it a whirl?
I guarantee it will leave you feeling
Happy, Happy, Happy

And that's a fact, Jack!

*****
By the way, I wasn't compensated for this endorsement. However, if the Robertsons should read this and want to send some of Miss Kay's biscuits my way, I won't turn them down.
And they can deliver them via  Jase Robertson....
otherwise known as Hunky McDuckman.

Hey, you have your crushes, I have mine... Jack.

i love the table attire. so cool!! i think i could use that often. so fun!!

might even make a few males mighty happy too, don't ya think? ( :

I have not yet watched this show! Which surprises me, because the sons are all about this kind of stuff. I will have to check it out - if only to gaze upon Hunky McDuckman. (I won't tell Sir Lotsa Hair). And, I had NO idea that these were people of faith. That's cool.

So, to your table. This was such a fun *departure* from most - and I really loved it. I will definitely come and dine at your duck blind. What's on the menu? (Let's be sensitive and NOT serve chicken wings or Duck a l'orange).

Loved this post, Debbie - your sense of humor continues to just quack me up!

Absolutely adorable table. I think anyone, but especially men, would love to dine here. I love the show and I love your table. Maybe you could serve a meal for the family and you could eat those biscuits and meet Jase at the same time. But if that happens, I'm coming along so I can meet Hunky McDuckman, too. You can rest assured the Duchess would tag along so she could meet Uncle Si. Why don't we just bring the whole family. Just saying'...

THIS!!! This is absolutely one of the best blog posts EVER. Period. End of statement, Jack!! You nailed it and I'm not ashamed to say I love the Robertsons, too! Their love of Faith, Family and Ducks is so refreshing and natural. They make me happy, happy, happy! Oh, and your table is awesome!

Auntie told me about this one. I didn't get her enthusiasm, but with two of you touting its merits...

Cute table!

We are SO in agreement, I watch no reality tv either and if I did, it would be Duck Dynasty because of its values.
And I can't resist, I must compliment your tablescape and tell you it is just ducky.

Cute rustic table! Seems that show is all the rage... Love your camo napkins:@)

So, I'm just cracking up! This is a perfect salute to one of our favorite shows. Yes, we're hooked too! I was reading about them and do you know that Willie has an adopted son? Sometimes you'll see him in the last shot at the dinner table. And did you know that in this season another "clean shaven" brother will be on the series? I believe he's a pastor.
I'll admit, I didn't even know about this show until I saw it plastered all over facebook a few months ago. When we watched our first show, we were very skeptical, but the last scene of the family praying and eating together sealed the deal. And what can you say about Si? He might be my favorite. Cause "hey"...it is what it is, right?
As for reality shows, I agree...but the one that I tune in for is "Dancing With the Stars". Sometimes it takes a while to get hooked on the "new season" stars, but I always come back. I do miss Max, Julianne, and Edita? Was that her name? She's been off for a while, but I really enjoyed watching her dance!
Back to your table, I like all the different things you put together...it's perfect.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Love the duck table. Adorable!

As for Duck Dynasty, I watched one episode but I couldn't seem to get past those beards. LOL! Mercy sakes alive! They are so not attractive.

But I know if it's coming from you, then it's a great show. I may just have to give it another try.

And I'm with you all the way on keeping up with anyone's family and calling it a "reality" show. Yeah, right. I've never been a celebrity fan, and especially wanna-be's.

Marlis said...

Debbie, everyone i know watches that show, but me. It's reality tv and I, like you do not do them!! I should give the beards another chance though, right??? LOL.. That is the fanciest duck blind I've ever seen. Love the duckified chargers for sure.. and the dishes are perfect!! Your duck decoys are so pretty. Love them. Loved this totally fun post. xo marlis

I am jumping up and down...really!!! We both think a like and I was planning a Duck Dynasty blog post this week...well you did it for me girl!!!
I love it...well what can I say, I have five boys. I bought one of the books for my son...the new Dad,for Father's Day.
I also love this post since your dishes are the same ones my son and his wife bought as newly-weds..they celebrated 8 years yesterday, and he would love this table.
I am cheering...well I am duck calling, a round of applause.
We just rented the whole first series from Redbox on Sunday and I laughed until I cried...too good!!

Sue said...

Well, I never dreamed anyone could get me interested in camouflage and Duck Dynasty! I did try to watch it...once...I just couldn't take it. I will admit to having some sort of love/hate thing going with Dance Moms. I have no idea why I can't stop watching it!

Your table looks amazing. You really captured the theme and made if fun and elegant at the same time!

This is just the cutest!! Great job! Every detail is perfect!

I just finished watching tonight's new Duck Dynasty and loved it, made tears come to my eyes!

I'm like you about reality TV, but have enjoyed watching this one, mainly because of their faith and the prayer at the end. I'm surprised someone hasn't protested that. Bet it wouldn't do any good, "they would stick to their guns" and do it anyway!

This post made me Happy, Happy, Happy!!

Well I am definitely going to give this show a whirl now. My daughter and her hubby have been singing it's praises for a while now but I just haven't even been tempted to try...YOU talked me into it, haha. Never watched any of those other reality shows you mentioned either...I just have never gotten it. LOVED the table btw!

Our son next door, turned-us-on to the DD Clan, this summer. We have been glued-to-our-tv, with reruns. And of course, watched the opening of Season 4, last night!

Have you read Phil's book? I have and it's an eye-opener! Have Willie's book coming soon.

Oh and!!!!!!! You and I, both adore JASE!!!!!!!!!! Yes, yes, yes! With Jase, Phil and Si, the male field is covered. -giggggles-

I'm not blogging this summer, but my blog is still on blogger. (I never remove old blogs. -grin-)

Oh and your table setting is my kind of table setting!!!!! I never do these photo shoots, but this one, is worth copying!!!

Lots and lots of gentle hugs, Jack!

Girl!!!! I love Duck Dynasty. I love Uncle Si. I love Phil and Kay's sweet love and affection for each other (all in that rugged kind of way) I totally love the beards and am wondering if my hubby or son could grow one just like theirs. I love their strong faith and that they do live it not just speak it like you said. I love the "family table". I love the humor (even "gassy" humor) They make me laugh. They even make me think. They challenge me. Yep, it's a reality show and I'm loving it. I don't usually watch reality tv either.

Love our Duckmen, too! Ed and I are big fans even though neither of us are hunters - we have to admit to some "redneck connections." Ed has them in his family (mother's side) and we both know some beloved rednecks at our church who would fit right in with the Robertsons.

Great tablescape - and I hear last night's episode was a tearjerker. We don't have TV so we'll catch it on a friend's taped replay and wait for the DVD. We've done multiple weekend long marathons with the DVD's - Ed in his recliner resting from a work-week and me with my crafting table and busy fingers - in such a state we are decidedly "happy happy happy"!

Both the books were great and two more are coming out - Uncle Si's book (should be interesting) and Miss Kay's cookbook - so you can get the biscuit recipe at the very least!

Joy with Blessings!

I saw the camo tease, and I knew! You nailed it: Faith, Family, and Ducks - in that order. You won't be surprised to know Renaissance Man is a big fan of Duck Dynasty. If he's watching it, I sometimes watch it with him. It's so funny! I'm obviously not at your fan level yet, though. You did a great job on this table!

On our last trip to Brazil, a Board member had DD on his laptop and introduced the CEO/missionary to it - while in flight between our two campuses. I've never laughed so hard in my life just listening to the two of them laughing! I'm sure the Portuguese-speaking passengers sitting around them wondered what could possibly be that funny.

Debbie, I know we are somehow related to each other. I abhor reality shows, but I do enjoy DD. When I started reading about it, I thought, I'll watch this just to see what everybody is talking about, and I was hooked. Your table is great. I love your interpretation of a beard with the burlap! Any of the DD family would be proud to sit at this table (I would say all of them would be proud, but you'd need a much longer table). I'm always amazed by their attractive wives. I had to go to a meeting last night, and I hear I missed a really good season opener. Wish I had taped it. Fun post! laurie

OK. That's EXACTY how I feel about reality shows. Must say, I can't imagine I'd like the duck show, but perhaps I'll give it a go if I stumble on it when I go channel surfing.

The table is great! Some good ideas for setting a table in for guys down in The Man Cave.

Thanks for such an entertaining presentation.

i love this table. It is soooo cute. I have watched it a few times but with baseball season upon us I often get pre-empted. I do enjoy watching them and Si is my favorite.
Your table is adorable and I love the redneck wine glasses. That centerpiece could go uptown, you know.
I am with you on Honey Boo Boo. For the longest, I had no idea who she was, now I am just embarrassed that she is from Georgia.
Have a great weekend, Ginger

Oh Debbie, so much to comment on in this post! I read this yesterday, but am just now getting a chance to leave a comment.

First of all, so glad to see you confessing to your celebrity crush; now I'm not out there all alone in posting about MY celebrity crush. My husband is still teasing me about my Richard Armitage board on Pinterest. :-D

Secondly, you hit a homerun with your tablescape, girl!! Woo-hoo! I laughed so hard at being in a duck blind and the duck-ou-flage chargers. :-D I love the burlap tablecloth, camo napkins, redneck wine glasses, and all your wonderful ducks. You've outdone yourself in creativity this time.

I still haven't seen Duck Dynasty; like you I DON'T do the reality show thing (unless you count cooking shows). But everyone in my family watches Duck Dynasty, so I'm going to have to give it a whirl. Thanks for sharing this fun post and have a great weekend!

Hugs,

Denise
