Dining Under the Pear Trees

I'm pretty much flying solo with the table this week. Last week was way too busy to play with dishes.
But when I came home from school the other day, I was greeted by my favorite sight of the year.

The Bradford pear explosion.

It just seemed to inspire a springtime table of
 white and green.

So with a little help from the tablescaping team, I gathered together some dishes and linens. Then, I was on my own to try to put it all together.

The linens all came from the Duchess.
Both the tablecloth and napkins came from her vintage linen trunk.

I did a little decoupage on the napkin ring
and set it across a dessert bowl.

Those  bowls belong to me. I fell in love with the pattern and have been collecting it for a while.  They keep showing up at my favorite antique store, and I keep buying pieces.

I have luncheon plates and soup bowls too.

The white salad and dinner plates
are Italian Countryside by Mikasa.
They all belong to the Sister.

There was no good reason to put them all on the table,
but I  just loved the way they looked all sandwiched together.

I bought these sherbet glasses at the same
 antique store.
Since my theme color is green this year,
I figured I would get a lot of use out of them.

The stemware, I've had for a while. I got it at another antique store.
It usually lives on a table in our bedroom.

I cut some some blossoms from our pear trees and arranged them in a tureen that almost matches the floral dishes. Since it wasn't quite tall enough, I set it on some more Italian Countryside.

And because there was no one around to stop me,
I stuck more blossoms willy nilly around the table.

And set it all up on the front porch in view of the pear trees.

The husband is home this week. When he saw me lugging this stuff to the front porch, he asked if we were really going to dine alfresco.

No, we're not.
I explained to him that this is the front porch,
and I didn't want to make a spectacle of myself.

And he said...

Why stop now?

Such a smarty pants I married.

This table turned out sooooo pretty. I'm glad the tablecloth worked out. It's quite a showpiece. (MY humble opinion, of course). The 'stack' of dishes is perfect with all of the linens. Those pear trees are such a great backdrop.

Thanks for doing a little decoupage on those napkin rings. Some of us really look for that special Debbie touch.

And, since the husband is home, a little alfresco dining would be nice. (Even if he displays his snickering testosterone all the way through dinner).

Wow! I love this! What a beautiful presentation for the blossoms to the lacy napkin. I am glad I stopped by. By the way, I have a contest giveaway on my blog you might find fun. Take a look. Debbie this is just gorgeous and it makes me literally crave warmer, sunny weather! The pops of green are my favorite part and I love how you created an "urn" to use for the floral arrangement...you are very clever, you know? I know you know! :-)

How pretty Debbie. Your dishes are just beautiful, I can see why you collect them and the linens look perfect with them. Your Bradford Pears are ahead of mine a little ~ ours are just starting to pop out. [we don't have quite the show that you do, only 2 :-( }

But it's warm and sunshiny here so I am excited for spring!
Enjoy your day, and maybe you can eat in the backyard!

Oh, our Hubbies would get along famously! That sounds exactly like something he would say!

So, this table has moved up the list of my favorites. Not only is it gorgeous with my favorite Bradford Pear trees, but it's also GREEN, which is my favorite color! So GORGEOUS! I love all the dishes! Denise's white patterned ones are so pretty and the ones you've been collecting are beautiful!! And don't even get me started on the ice cream dishes. If I ever make it over for dinner, you better hide them. They might wind up in my purse. Hee! Hee! Super job!

LOL! Ahh, but he loves you! Love your pretty porch table setting. I have noticed the Bradford Pears are beautiful downtown. We don't have any around here. I love your pretty dishes with the roses, they remind me of the ones I have that were my grandmas...very similiar. I also really like the napkin ring addition and those pretty green dessert cups. You did a fantastic job all on your own there! It's gorgeous!

Oh, seeing those pear trees in full bloom was marvelous! We had to cut the one in our front yard down last year, and I miss it. Your table is so beautiful, with those soft greens and the pretty linens. I love your green glassware, too, and I am on the lookout for some vintage sherbets. I really "need" some! Thanks for your kind comments this week!

Don't you just love him??? Oh you have so much fun and this is just beautiful!!! Now you truly are the one who needs those two dishwashers I posted about last week. Oh to dine at that table and see the pear trees. Do enjoy!!!

A gorgeous tablesetting and I love the china pattern. The green sherbets may very well be depression glass??? I would love to have some of those. I cut some Bradford Pear stems over the weekend from our farm to bring home (did a post yesterday about them) They have a rather peculiar fragrance to them which I did not know. The longer they have been in the house, I'm not sure if I am just getting use to it or the fragrance is diminishing??? In any case they are beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed your post.

I just ewwwww and awwwwe every time you do a table scape! You boggle my mind and make me think of the pictures that were in the Victoria magazine I use to collect. And to see those blossoms! Ohhh my mind is boggling, lol. You saw my icy cold snow pics and to come here and see your SPRING, like night and day in seasons. I wished I could hire you (if I had the extra cash) to create a landscape for a anniversary I would. Do you have cupboards and cupboards of dishes? Ohhh thats right you barrow too. You are so smart. Whatever would we do without the men we married? :-) Yours sounds delightful!

Your tablescape is so relaxing, and I can't believe how gorgeous your pear trees are already! We're just barely getting buds on the ones around here. They make a beautiful backdrop for your table -- and the FRONT porch was the perfect choice. Your dishes are delightful, but I've gotta tell you ... I'd love to get to peek in the Duchess's vintage linens trunk. She loaned you some beauties again this week!

Uh, yeah...so...Just a heads up that I'll be hijacking that vintage linen truck and driving it to your house to sit on your porch and look out at those beautiful pear trees!!! Oh, my goodness!!! They are exquisite!!! Magnificent! And you have so MANY of them!!! And they are in bloom like that already?!??!?!! Lucky, lucky girl!!! I'm still starin' at wind whipped bare branches! :-( There is little, if any, sign of spring around these parts! Beautiful table! Keep buying those dishes...they make for a whale of a pretty table! Thanks for stopping by my place earlier this evening, and have a fantabulous week!!! P.S. - I would like to please have a tall glass of freshly squeezed lemonade & a plate of cookies waiting when the Duchess and I show up in her hijacked vintage linen truck! :-)

The minute I read your comment to the hubby, I started giggling....I already knew what his retort was going to be. The green with the white is beautiful...refreshing. Our lovely row of five Bradford Pears are finally going to have be taken down. They are old, and they are so fragile that with our occasional wild straight winds, they could easily come down and land either on our house or the neighbors. They'll be missed. I think that we'll go with magnolias instead. I have the same insecurities about monochromatic designs...yet, I've never seen a 'fail' on any of your posts...but maybe you're like me...you don't ever post the 'fails.' Thank you for sharing your non-al fresco design and for stopping by my post. Cherry Kay

Your table is absolutely beautiful. The setting could not be more lovely. I love your dishes and your pictures are so well done. I think the green and white combo is one of my favorites. And, by the way, your post on your 100 year old English teacher was a fave!!! That is my goal to be 101. I hope all my old students remember me with half the graciousness you remember your teacher. oooh. Hubby scores a point! He is too funny.

I love how you set this table up. The trees in the background are fabulous. (We have a street near us lined with the same trees and I look every day for signs of this year's explosion.)

The greens and the whites are beautiful together. You "done good, girl!" doing this on your own...It's such a pleasing arrangement. I would have been disappointed to not sit down to dinner at that table!

Gorgeous table!
I was just thinking, this morning, I will be so happy to set a table on the porch. Our pear trees have a little while left before they bloom. A couple of years ago, we had a warm spring and they bloomed too early. Then we had an ice storm! I think they will be okay this year, though. When they do bloom I am going to cut some for a table. I love your centerpiece.

Wow, I'm a little late to the party!

What is it about green and white that just makes for such a crisp, spring look? (Don't answer - it's a rhetorical question...)

Looks like you did a lovely job all by yourself - I'm so proud. And also a little relieved at the decoupage napkin rings. I was needing a fix...

Yes, you did marry a smarty pants - but at least he's smart enough to know who wears the pants in the family - just sayin'...

Hi Debbie,

What a knockout job you did on this tablescape!! I just LOVE it! Your antique floral china pattern is beautiful and it goes so beautifully with all your other greens -- the stemware, flatware handles, vintage tablecloth, and the foliage from your pear trees. We have lots of those here in N.C. too, but I don't know if I've seen any in bloom yet. This really is the most charming table -- it's so inviting.

Thanks for your kind comments two weeks ago about my "Juliet" table. I couldn't do a table last week because of another home project, and this week I've been sick with a cold. However, I do plan to post a tutorial on the heart napkin fold and link to Metamorphosis Monday with Susan at BNOTP. And I'm already planning my table for next Thursday. Hope you'll stop by!
