So The Color Of The Year Is...

Wooohoo!
I'm finally finished!

I don't know whether it makes me early or late in blog years,
but I have finally finished  undecorating the home place.

Good-bye Christie Kringle, you big lug...

While I was in  no hurry whatsoever to see the spirit of the season go, I was more than ready to clear away the Christmas clutter. I love the festive Christmas decorations, but honestly, the color red is kind of like Christmas candy. By the end of the season, I've had way too much of both of them.

Unfortunately, this presented a bit of a problem. You see, I like my color of the year to go along with my theme of the year, and this year my theme is Stepping Out.

Yep. I enjoyed finding the sunshine so much last year that I thought I might try something a little more daring. This year, I'm going to step out into it.

Out of my comfort zone...
Out of my rut...
Away from my security blanket...

But here's the problem. Stepping out is going to take a bit of boldness, isn't it? And frankly,  I can't think of a better color for The Year of Stepping Out than the color red.

Red is all about boldness and confidence.
 Red is out there...
right where I plan to be stepping.

So what do you do when you're sick of a potential  color of the year  before the year even begins?  You embark on a Great Red Removal Adventure, of course. You clear away every inch of Christmas red from poinsettia to peppermint. You even remove red accessories that don't have a thing to do with Christmas.

And then, when you are all finished,
you go back and add just a pop of it.

So that's  exactly what I did.

And that's when it hit me.

Boldness really is a lot like the color red. Both of them in moderation are beautiful things. Too much of either of them, though, is just plain too much. Too much boldness doesn't make you brave; it just makes you brash.  Who wants to be brash?

I don't.

I don't even want to be bold. I just want to be bolder. I just want the courage to take the step and add that missing pop of color to my life.

And that's why 2013 is not the year of red.

It is very specifically
the year of poppy.

Why poppy? Because it pops, of course. Plus, it's the shade you get when you mix a lot of red with just a touch of yellow.  Sounds like the perfect color to me.

So there you have it.
I hereby declare that 2013 is the color

 Poppy

and I dub it
The Year of  Stepping Out

Now exactly what  I'm stepping into
has yet to be determined.

Just thought I would mention that so you don't follow too closely...

I guessed it right, but I don't remember a prize being offered. :-) I hope your year is filled with God's endless blessings, my friend. You bring me smiles all the time.

I didn't think of red, I really thought green, for hope, I don't know. I have no right to guess a blogging bud's thoughts. I like poppy, as it is related to orange, my favorite color in all its shades, but then I like hot and spicy. ;-) Poppy is a great choice, Debbie. xo

Hi Debbie,

I'm always glad to see what color you've chosen for the new year. Poppy sounds great to me. I agree with you that the yellow was wonderful; you did so many pretty tablescapes with yellow, and it is such a cheerful color. But...I also like the idea of being bold-er but not necessarily BOLD.

On the subject of red, I never thought I liked red, although everyone always told me that the color red looks good on me because I have dark hair. I never used it in my decor, however; until about ten years ago my mom got a red and white sofa for their newly built home, and I really fell in love with it. Our sofa needed re-covering, and my MIL helped me choose a nice red fabric with a small amount of pattern. It perked our den up tremendously, and I've been very happy with it. The room looks so much warmer than it did before. That's the only place I've used red in our home, but it works.

I look forward to seeing you "step out" this year! I know you'll have some fun stories to tell us. :)

Hugs,

Denise

Red! Good for you. I have always been intimidated by red. I don't even wear the color. Although, when I see it, I really like it. I love reds for Valentines day and perhaps I will have to incorporate it more myself. I like it. Happy New Year Debbie.

Well. Well. Well. I actually have a lovely wreath from last spring and the flowers are not red, they are poppy and I made a little tiny pillow to coordinate with it. I love that shade of red. It's classy.

I love this share! While I lack the "moxie" to be a red-sorta gal, I'm happy to cheer from the side-lines.
... and isn't "poppy" much more FUN sounding aloud vs. "red." (...droid.)

Hi Debbie,
I like your colour choice for this year.
I have put away all things Christmas in my home, too. As much as I love the decorations.....this time I felt a little claustrophobic ... I used a lot of gold tinsel and that makes for a hot feel to a room in our Summer...next year it's back to my favourite ... Silver.
I love red in splashes throughout the house and I wear a fair bit of red....It's a happy colour.
I'm sure you'll manage Bold((er) very well.
Have a good day

I will make sure I don't follow too closely so I can sidestep if you happen to have a little misstep but I will certainly look forward to all the places and ways He requests you to be more bold.

Oh Debbie, you crack me up! Poppy is just PERFECT for you. The Year of Stepping Out - also perfect.

Would it be all right if I followed along with you? After all, this is the year that I'm asking God to give me DIRECTION. So, if we join forces and ask God for direction, and then for the courage to step out and follow where He leads, I think we can tackle the world!

Can't wait to share the journey with you - no matter what we step into!!

GOD BLESS!

Debbie,
These past few months have been a trial: mammogram, ultra sound, MRI and then, finally, whatever was there is now GONE!! Praise the Lord! But, of course, everything else got put on the back burner until I could breathe again! Good to read your post - love your color theme for the year 2013.

Love the pops of poppy! Of course yellow is my all time favorite, but the red is good. Our house interior is painted a pale gold and accent color is a berry color, so it's similar and I do like the combination, and with yours as well!

I look forward to seeing what you make pop with your pops of poppy!!
