Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden

It's the first week in April.
Here in Georgia, that makes it golf time.

The nearby city of Augusta welcomes the world for the Masters Classic. The tournament and the course are known for their beautiful spring blossoms.

Each hole is named after a different flowering tree.

It seemed only fitting that we nestle our table among the azaleas too.

My father was an avid golfer.
When he was alive and in good health, he went to The Masters every year.
He took my brother, the Duchess, my sisters, and even the husband.

By mutual agreement, he never took me.
He didn't like shushing, and I don't like being shushed.

We could have done a full table in the famous Master's Green, but we chose instead to be inspired by these  vintage salad plates from the Duchess's collection.

The greens are softer.

So we went with more muted greens and masculine browns.
We're calling that tablecloth
the  sand trap.

The salad plates have four different duffers in the traditional
knickers and argyle.

So an argyle napkin was the only natural choice.
In keeping with the masculine look of the table, we chose a simple iron napkin ring.

Four more iron flatware pieces, and we have 5 irons at each setting.
(That's a golfing pun in case you missed it.)

The stemware is simple and hearty and that same muted green.

Of course, we couldn't completely neglect the famous shade of Master's Green.
We added it to the center of the table.

The golf balls are my sole contribution this week,
and they don't even belong to me.

They belong to the husband.
He was gracious enough to be our tablescape caddy.

Like any good caddy,  he made suggestions, too.
I had painted the golf tees Masters' Green and hot glued the ball and bow
for place cards.

Mine were just going to lie there like the one in the background of this picture.

The caddy suggested we create a little green instead.
He even cut them out for us.

He probably doesn't want me to tell the world that he helped us play with dishes...

So I won't.

And there you have it.
Our Masters inspired vintage golf table.

By the way, that acronym in the title is nothing but urban legend
so ladies, don't get your dander up.
Instead, sit down, relax, and enjoy
Tea Time at the Masters.

I'll be sharing this with Susan for

Not only are you clever, but you can make a tablescape so much fun! Oh, this is really cute, Debbie.

I loved the story about your agreement with your daddy, and I love the Duchess' golfer plates. You did an outstanding job with this table... from the sand trap tablecloth to the argyle napkins to the "irons," it was perfection. I enjoyed every word and every picture, and I love how you nestled the table amongst the azaleas in honor of The Masters.

Mr. Magpie was an avid golfer for many years and played the Old Course at St. Andrews which just set him free! ;-) But he never made it to The Masters to see the tourny there. He just watches it faithfully from television. I took a few lessons, but I enjoyed riding in the golf cart and foraging for wildflowers more than I did swinging that club. I could hit it straight, but I could only hit it about ten feet. LOL!

And I would have been "shushed," too. Maybe that's why I like you so much.

Great table!

XO,

Sheila :-)

Oh my gracious! I absolutely love it! Brilliant! I love those salad plates. Very cool! Also, I have a thing for black iron (love the pun) and am in love with both the napkin ring AND the silverware! LOOOOVE!!! Love the napkins too. So cute! And the golf ball place card holders? So stinkin' cute!

I'm thinking maybe you missed your calling. You should've been a big ole fancy party planner or something. So cute! Love it! It's gotta be in my favorite top 3 tablescapes by Debbie!

Um, Debbie, I'm thinking your husband might be a closet tablescaper! :-) He did a pretty good job helping out with the place "cards". Was there any shushing involved as you worked together? That was my favorite line from the entire post! Where oh where did you get those napkins? I'll be you made em. My son's room is decorated with vintage golf decor and I think it was all part of my hubby's master plan to get him to love golf through osmosis or something. It actually worked though! :-)

I meant to say "I'll BET you made em" instead of "I'll be you made em"! LOL!
Well, I'll be!

Wow, I love those plates! The whole table is wonderful, the argyle napkins so manly! Great job!
It looks like a beautiful course! I remember watching it with a group of friends before a dinner party. I got the "shush" a lot! We have had the US Open here in Southampton a few times. I just go the day after for the big sales, and free plants! 2018 they are coming again, but I will be too old to carry all those plants the long walk to the car. Maybe they will lend me a golf cart, LOL!

Hi Debbie
I've been away from the computer for a week or so ~ so fun to catch up with your last few posts.
Super job on you Tablescape as always. I love the fact that you got your husband involved!!
And...enjoy your time off from your teaching. I know how badly the time is needed to recharge your batteries!

I took golf in high school my senior year. My teacher suggested it was a great place to pick up a rich husband! In California it was tons of fun but I married my dance teacher in Idaho where we liked to ski. I really ought to get back to it!

Your table is absolutely delightful with the posh argyle napkins and glorious azaleas, my kind of golf CLUB for sure!!!! When is your tea off?

Okay, so here's the deal...

Your tables and party settings are so over the top! You have every detail figured out and the whole thing is absolutely superb!

and... I do favors and wall stuff... so, I'm thinking we need to start our own party planning business!! :0

whadda you think??

Seriously Debbie, you have a beautiful gift here, and I've never seen anyone do tables better!

My dad would also have loved this. He & my mom used to sneak over to Palm Springs and watch the Bing Crosby tournament years ago. He died 19 91, and had played 9 holes the day before! So this blog is an ode to our dad's!

Debbie, Debbie, Debbie!!!! This wowed me in a big way! It's an amazing tablescape. I loved everything about it!

The Man is on the golf course as I type, and I almost went with him (yes, I have clubs and play on occasion ... not well, but that's not the point). It's such a glorious day here in Southeast Texas, and a perfect day for the game of golf. I just wasn't sure the old back was up to it today, so it's been me and the dog and the lounger. Perfect.

By the way, The Man and I want to go to Augusta one of these days. We drool watching the Masters every year. That golf course is a.m.a.z.i.n.g!

Loved the table but I was laughing out loud at the commentary. I really think you need to think about either humorous writing or stand up comedy for your new profession!!

By the way, I LOVE the bigger pictures and mini collage photos. Did Miss Whimsy show you this technique or did you figure it out on your own? Very impressed.

Let's hope the husband doesn't decide to start reading your blog now. Don't worry. I'll be sure to keep my mouth shushed.

This is one tablescape I will share with the hubby. He too is a golf FANATIC. When we lived in England, he even had orange golf balls in order to play in bad weather, including snow! Actually, he only played in the snow once.

But here, he does have a cover for a golf cart and a heater. Can you say "hard core?"

Anyway, I know he'll LOVE this table, Debbie .... and in the same breath he'll add "that's not permission to shop for dishes." : )

Cheers!

Kathleen said...

Wow, that has got to be one unique tablescape! I love it. The five irons were a clever little touch. The shushing bit made me smile.

I love visiting here,
Kathleen.

TOO COOL!!!!! I LOVE this table! I don't know if I ever told you, but my husband and I lived in Augusta for a short while (2004). In fact, we lived just about 1/2 mile down the street from The National Golf Course. We are boarding a plane for Savannah in the morning as he considers taking a position at a clinic there. I got online and looked up Savannah last night to get a feel for it beyond "Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil". I understand it is called "The Hostess City of the South". Sounds like the perfect place for an avid hostess like me! :-) We visited Savannah in December, 2004 just at the time the tsunami occurred. We were on Tybee Island, standing at the edge of the ocean on a big rock with the waves crashing around us violently. We had NO idea what was going on just a relatively short distance away. We will never forget that. Anyhoooooo....this is a table that is SO perfect for this time of year in Georgia and for anytime of year wherever there is golf! Those argyle napkins are just TOO great!!! And to put the table so near the blooming azaleas is fabulous. What is it with these husbands getting so involved in our tablescaping? It's wild! Nice to know we have their support and that in some small way they ARE paying attention. Your hubby's idea for the "green" was great! And yes, I DID catch the reference to the 5 irons. Very clever! My Dad was an avid golfer, too, before he was stricken with Alzheimer's. I totally understand about not wanting to go to the tournaments and being shushed. I think my husband is the only doctor on the face of this earth who DOESN'T golf!!! :-) This is a great table, and I'm so glad to see it just before heading to the Peach State tomorrow. I'll wave to you as our plane hovers above!!!

Debbie,
I am "bowled" over by your tablescape! As a some time golfer and full time watcher, I loved all the references to the game. The napkins were delightful as were the golf tees your hubby helped with! I loved the 5 irons -(and yes, I got it,too!) where in the world did you find them? They are quite unique.
You are so much fun - you really are a talented lady!

I am seriously impressed. Every detail! Even the way you described it. I could almost sense your hushed tone, so as not to disturb the game. My favorite part was the picture taken at table height as if you were eyeballing things the same way the golfer on the plate is eyeballing his shot!! Quite nice...
Blessings, Debbie

I love it! Can you share your storage secrets for all of the dinnerware, glasses, silverware and linens! I have my eye on some more dishes, but storage is lacking in my wee little kitchen.

OH, I love it! Debbie, my FIL used to go to the Masters too! He was a leisure golfer in retirement after many years as a CPA. For some reason golf and CPA's go well together here in SC. LOL! The masters is quite popular here too when it comes around, it's on our news and the gift shop I used to work in even carried lot's of golfing decor (doodads) as well. I love your tablescape and your story too. I can so relate to the whole "shooshing" thing. LOL! It would be so hard for me too. haha! What a fun and fantastic tablescape!

I am not a golfer (except mini) but hubby is, and I can see so many of your ideas that I will definitely steal :) The golf balls in the centerpiece and the placecard holders are so clever, and those plates are so special! The argyle napkins and "irons" add a great touch, as do the azaleas! I did not know that the holes had flower names. Now I will pay more attention! Linda

We traveled through South Carolina and Georgia for our Spring Break and had a great time. You are SO lucky to live in such a gorgeous place...and what an amazing tradition for your family! My husband loves to play golf and is glued to the television when the Masters is on.

Your table is perfect for this theme. You are so creative! All the special touches makes for a feast for the eyes. My husband would have loved to dine at such a special table!

Oh, Debbie I can't wait till the golfer husband can view this table.(He is in bed) He recorded the Master's showing today as we were on the road and the minute we got home he was infront of the TV. Maybe I can set a table for him for Sunday finals and make it a really special day.
Where oh where did you find the plates?

He would love this tablescape. I can also appreciate your talent for infusing your commentary with Golf-puns. Great job all around!

How fun, Debbie!!

You had me on the "hook" from the very beginning - it was a wonderful "slice" of your life. This table was on a "par" with professional table decorators. You soared like an "eagle" on this one! And no, I would not "lie" to you. After all, I think you're a regular "chip" off the Duchess' block!

OK, that's all I've got for now.

You've scored a hole in one with this table, Debbie!! I'm totally in love with every inch, especially the name cards on the golf balls & green tees. Tell your DH he did a fabulous job on those, please?

I have ONE of those golfer plates & I put it out every St. Pat's day to remind us of the golfing trip we took to Ireland & St. Andrews. Sadly, we've never made it to the Masters...we enter the drawing every year for tickets, but no luck.

GREAT tablescape...I can't wait till DH wakes up so I can show it to him & trust me, I don't do that very often. LOL
He has been watching the Masters all weekend & I'll sit down with him for the final round today.

Hugs,
Rett

p.s. I love your kitchen window!!!!
