Wooohoo!
I'm finally finished!
I don't know whether it makes me early or late in blog years,
Unfortunately, this presented a bit of a problem. You see, I like my color of the year to go along with my theme of the year, and this year my theme is Stepping Out.
Yep. I enjoyed finding the sunshine so much last year that I thought I might try something a little more daring. This year, I'm going to step out into it.
Out of my comfort zone...
Out of my rut...
Away from my security blanket...
Red is all about boldness and confidence.
Red is out there...
right where I plan to be stepping.
So what do you do when you're sick of a potential color of the year before the year even begins? You embark on a Great Red Removal Adventure, of course. You clear away every inch of Christmas red from poinsettia to peppermint. You even remove red accessories that don't have a thing to do with Christmas.
And then, when you are all finished,
you go back and add just a pop of it.
So that's exactly what I did.
And that's when it hit me.
Boldness really is a lot like the color red. Both of them in moderation are beautiful things. Too much of either of them, though, is just plain too much. Too much boldness doesn't make you brave; it just makes you brash. Who wants to be brash?
I don't.
I don't even want to be bold. I just want to be bolder. I just want the courage to take the step and add that missing pop of color to my life.
And that's why 2013 is not the year of red.
It is very specifically
the year of poppy.
the year of poppy.
Why poppy? Because it pops, of course. Plus, it's the shade you get when you mix a lot of red with just a touch of yellow. Sounds like the perfect color to me.
So there you have it.
I hereby declare that 2013 is the color
Poppy
and I dub it
The Year of Stepping Out
Now exactly what I'm stepping into
has yet to be determined.
Just thought I would mention that so you don't follow too closely...

I guessed it right, but I don't remember a prize being offered. :-) I hope your year is filled with God's endless blessings, my friend. You bring me smiles all the time.
I didn't think of red, I really thought green, for hope, I don't know. I have no right to guess a blogging bud's thoughts. I like poppy, as it is related to orange, my favorite color in all its shades, but then I like hot and spicy. ;-) Poppy is a great choice, Debbie. xo
All right then, go for it, step out, be bold!! But before you do that you had better clean up the mess of needles by the front door!!

Hi Debbie,
I'm always glad to see what color you've chosen for the new year. Poppy sounds great to me. I agree with you that the yellow was wonderful; you did so many pretty tablescapes with yellow, and it is such a cheerful color. But...I also like the idea of being bold-er but not necessarily BOLD.
On the subject of red, I never thought I liked red, although everyone always told me that the color red looks good on me because I have dark hair. I never used it in my decor, however; until about ten years ago my mom got a red and white sofa for their newly built home, and I really fell in love with it. Our sofa needed re-covering, and my MIL helped me choose a nice red fabric with a small amount of pattern. It perked our den up tremendously, and I've been very happy with it. The room looks so much warmer than it did before. That's the only place I've used red in our home, but it works.
I look forward to seeing you "step out" this year! I know you'll have some fun stories to tell us. :)
Hugs,
Denise
Poppy sound wonderful. There are orange poppies but you chose a red one, how wonderful.
love. love. love the color Poppy!! I am dancing a jig of cheer to see where Poppy leads you this year!! =D blessings ~ tanna
Red! Good for you. I have always been intimidated by red. I don't even wear the color. Although, when I see it, I really like it. I love reds for Valentines day and perhaps I will have to incorporate it more myself. I like it. Happy New Year Debbie.
Well. Well. Well. I actually have a lovely wreath from last spring and the flowers are not red, they are poppy and I made a little tiny pillow to coordinate with it. I love that shade of red. It's classy.
Well you will need those red shoes I posted for your stepping out! I love red!!!
I agree on "stepping out" and I am here to cheer you on, as I too try to step out.
Yes I think we are both going in the same direction...just coming at it in different ways....TRANSITION for us both.
I look forward to your 2013...the red and the stepping out...you go girl!!!
I like your color...Poppy, it does Pop!
I love this share! While I lack the "moxie" to be a red-sorta gal, I'm happy to cheer from the side-lines.
... and isn't "poppy" much more FUN sounding aloud vs. "red." (...droid.)

We have so many bush fires at the moment red is the colour that is starting our year.
Merle....
Hi Debbie,
I like your colour choice for this year.
I have put away all things Christmas in my home, too. As much as I love the decorations.....this time I felt a little claustrophobic ... I used a lot of gold tinsel and that makes for a hot feel to a room in our Summer...next year it's back to my favourite ... Silver.
I love red in splashes throughout the house and I wear a fair bit of red....It's a happy colour.
I'm sure you'll manage Bold((er) very well.
Have a good day

I missed it, I really thought it was going to be green but poppy is a great, I am planning to add more red in my home this year,.
I am so looking forward to seeing where poppy is going to take you this year, I know it is going to be a wonderful ride. Thanks for taking me along.
Hugs,
Sue
Yes for poppy and for stepping out! I'm right behind you so don't walk too slowly. I'm looking forward to seeing the world popping out from your eyes. It should be a great year!
=D Okay, thanks for the warning. I do love your pop of red.
I just posted some poppies painted the "poppy" color so you know I love it!
I will make sure I don't follow too closely so I can sidestep if you happen to have a little misstep but I will certainly look forward to all the places and ways He requests you to be more bold.
2013, here we come!
Love, Love, Love POPPY! It's such a happy color. I'm with you, sister...I'm stepping out into the new adventure Jesus has for me this year. I'm calling my year the year of living fully alive. "Bout time...
I love that Debbie!! Poppy is the perfect color to honor being "bolder" and I'm excited to see how God is going to use this declaration to bring Him glory through you this year! :-)
Vanessa
I love red! It's favorite of mine, along with lots of yellow, white, and green!
I love what you did - just a pop of poppy!
It looks wonderful with your colors...not brash, just beautiful!

I agree with you, too much of a good thing is too much. I like your baker's rack with just a "pop" of poppy! It's perfect!
(PS...what is that green box on your door?)
I could have had a hundred guesses and I never ever would have guessed poppy - very interesting - can't wait to see where you go with this. sandie
Poppy sounds perfect! I love that it's the year of stepping out for you and I love that you are so intentional.
Being bolder is a good thing and I cannot wait to see what God does with that extra boldness in someone like you. Watch out world!!!!
Poppy is an excellent choice! Have fun stepping out with poppy in 2013!
Oh Debbie, you crack me up! Poppy is just PERFECT for you. The Year of Stepping Out - also perfect.
Would it be all right if I followed along with you? After all, this is the year that I'm asking God to give me DIRECTION. So, if we join forces and ask God for direction, and then for the courage to step out and follow where He leads, I think we can tackle the world!
Can't wait to share the journey with you - no matter what we step into!!
GOD BLESS!
Debbie,
These past few months have been a trial: mammogram, ultra sound, MRI and then, finally, whatever was there is now GONE!! Praise the Lord! But, of course, everything else got put on the back burner until I could breathe again! Good to read your post - love your color theme for the year 2013.
~Jean
Sounds like you're planning a year of fun adventures-enjoy:@)
OH, YEAH! 2013's gonna be a GREAT YEAR!

I love how you think things through. Not only through but turn it inside out and upside down.
Oh yea...Poppy is your color!
Hi Debbie, I think your Poppy color choice fits your personality very well. You seem like a very vibrant person so....
Thanks for visiting me recently! Shannon
I look forward to your adventures this year with your color of poppy, Debbie. I like how it blends your last year's color with the red. Maybe you'll start out slowly and and go out boldly??
You will look perfect with pops of poppy. Delightful!
Poppy red is a perfect color for stepping out. I look forward to hearing about your adventures! (I came over from Dianne at Everything Else Thrown In"
Well, Debbie, you leaped right past the vibrance of green and surprised me! I love your choice to step out with boldness this year. Can't wait to see what doors God opens -- and which ones He helps you kick down!
Red is my fav color so I am a littler biased! Great color and moto...I will be following you as you "step out". Happy New Year to you also!
Love this post! Love your theme! Love your color choice!
Can't wait to see what you "step into". And, thanks for the warning. :)
I think it is very brave of you to choose poppy for your color! It's intriguing, mysterious and challenging. An all round great color for a new beginning of the year.
I will be watching to see which way you step and where it brings you. Hang on tight, girl, it's going to be a great year!

Love the pops of poppy! Of course yellow is my all time favorite, but the red is good. Our house interior is painted a pale gold and accent color is a berry color, so it's similar and I do like the combination, and with yours as well!
I look forward to seeing what you make pop with your pops of poppy!!
Katherine
Yay for you, dear friend. While red just may be my favorite color, I don't care for it in BIG doses, either. I have more reds than you but not as much as some. :))
I love your poppy-licious thinking and this post, Debbie!:-)
I have no doubt that stepping out with you this year will be fun, and poppy is a good color choice. laurie
Your baker's rack is so pretty!
Well I like red all the time!
