I shall not complain...
I woke to temperatures in the low 20's this morning, but a quick glance at weather.com, and I've decided I'm in pretty good shape. After all, we're supposed to reach a balmy 45 degrees today.
In contrast, the Practical One woke in her little basement apartment to temperatures in the single digits. As of my last stalking, she had hit a torrid 13 degrees, and the ground is covered with almost 4 inches of the cold, wet, yukky, stuff.
Pretty bad when your only mode of transportation is a sturdy pair of boots and an umbrella...
Of course, to my northern bloggy friends buried under a foot of snow, even Washington weather probably seems pretty mild right now.
So I promise not to complain. I shall not say a word about being a little housebound because of a little cold snap. I won't even mutter about the three different projects that I started over the weekend which will have to remain unfinished until Jack Frost leaves town.
I was going to yak all about them, too...
Instead, I'll just yak about some interior house playing I've been doing. Today, we're in the powder room.
Have I ever mentioned that my powder room is my favorite room in my entire house? Well, it is. Yes, I know that's odd. I mean, there's nothing whatsoever remarkable about our powder room. It needs an updated sink and faucet, and if you recall... the toilet is *biscuit* colored.
Still, I like it.
It's my favorite space in the whole house to change for the seasons.
I guess that's because it's a small space with a nice, taupe backdrop
to make change easy.
One of my favorite children's books ever... don't know why.
Plus, let's face it. In the powder room,
you get kind of a captive audience.
If you're ever going to have fun with the details, that's the place to do it.
Folks have nothing better to do than
ummm...
sit there...
and take in the whole story.
By the way, that middle one is my favorite book of all time if you don't count the Bible.
If you haven't read it as an adult, what are you waiting for? A long winter?
And that's all I have for today, a glimpse into my favorite room.
Some folks call it a powder room.
Me? I just think its a nice place to spin a yarn.

The sheet music looks cute in the light blue frame! I kinda keep my seasonal decorating to the holiday tree:@)
Cute vignette! Stay safe and warm.
I am a little um, weird, about a lot of extra stuff in the powder room, especially one that is used by others lol so I keep mine spartan like and I like it like that! We are at 10 degrees today, no warm up in sight, and we got about 9 inches of snow. I am completely done with winter. xo
It's sooooooo good to have you back!
Only YOU can share your favorite room as the powder room, love it!
Oh how sweet. I really like that. No. No decorating here of any sort whatsoever.
You are so right about details being noticed in the commode with nothing else to do! I am here to tell you it is going to be in the 30s tonight in Orlando...No snow though and high tomorrow 65...Burrrrrr! (I guess it is all relative)

Boy, talk about mixing *business* with pleasure - (sorry, I couldn't resist).
Love it - it's so YOU!
OK, so here's a little decorating story from my house to yours. Years ago I bought a dollhouse from Playmobil - a beautiful Victorian dollhouse - for myself. With only two sons, it was a toy I treated myself to! Playmobil made furniture for all the rooms, and I have added miniatures to it over the years.
Here's the decorating story - each month I have a sort of *theme*, and I change the outside to reflect that month's theme. July, there's a parade. December, Santa arrives with reindeer. You get the idea! And, on the dining room table inside, I put a different table decoration each month.
This year has been sort of a blur - so I haven't kept up with this. But you've got me remembering how much I enjoyed it. Maybe I'll start new in February with Valentine's Day!!
xo
LOL! My husband and I made a deal at the beginning of winter - he wouldn't complain about the cold and I wouldn't complain about the dark. When we woke up to 13 degrees this morning I had to remind him of our deal. :)
What you did with the bathroom is so cute! I spy my favorite winter time reading on that shelf.
I think all of our snow has been shipped to the east ,and I miss it terrible. Today it was 57, and sun, sun, sun. We need the moisture too. I don't have a fun powder room like that to decorate, but I love it. I tend to read a lot of books during the winter, and might spend a bit of time in your powder room :). Joni
What a fun bathroom! I always change things up around here. In fact I was working on taking some things down that were a bit too Christmassy. I'm not sure what I'll do exactly in there but I'm working on it!
Stay warm and cozy, Debbie.

The Bobsey Twins??
How cute is that . . .
The powder room... only you Debbie! And honestly, it makes perfect sense.
You won't believe this, but our powder room got a re-do before Christmas... it's taupe!! But taupe by itself still needs something to make it pop, that's what I'm working on. :)
I love to decorate with books. Well I am just jumping for joy that I am off work the next two days, when we are going to have below freezing again!! This Texas girl stays in doors. I will be warmed by my little grandson tomorrow.
I feel almost guilty that we have spent the entire month of January so far with the temps in the upper 70's and 80's. Soo nice. Have almost forgotten that its winter thought the nights are quite chilly (40's). I had that Bobbsey Twin book! What memories that brings back. Wonder what happened to all of my old books. Love your arrangement btw. HUGS
LOL! While you are spinning a yarn is a beautiful, uniquely Debbie kind of way... I will be more literally spinning (or crocheting or knitting) a yarn. LOL! I DON'T have a spot that I decorate... Once I get it "fixed", I tend to leave it until it becomes defunct. I am not a good decorator. I LOVE your seasonal powder room!! I might could spend an entire afternoon in there... blessings ~ tanna
I LOVE your half bath decorating. You have such great details that just scream "Debbie". Words. Words. And more words. Would love to steal these ideas but you would know. It's the first place I peek at when I go to your house just to see what's new. BTW, not too much stuff. Just right IMO.
Those of us in the north whine about the weather like its a surprise every year but duh its "the north". You however my dear Debbie have every right to complain about the 20's in your neck of the woods. Go ahead have a good whine, kick the door, have some chocolate... have a reason.
When we moved into our new home about oh...25 years ago my little powder room was my favorite because it was easy to decorate and it reminded me of my old home, if that makes sense.
Anyway, stay safe and warm and thanks for sharing.
How charming to make your powder room such a magical place. It is true, they are small and you are contained when you are in there. Maybe I better take another look at my decor in there! I love your winter theme and yes, I can't complain too much - it is cold and has stayed cold but we haven't been dumped on in a while.
I LOVE your powder room decor! I love the books you choose and have all but the Steinbeck myself. I leave all of my snowman and wintery books out too, and you are so right, The Long WInter is fabulous.
Wellll you know I AM complainin' about the cold :) Am thinkin' we need to move even FURTHER South...
Love your powder room displays.

LOL....have to laugh. When I last re-did my powder room, it too, got a taupe make-over. And I too like decorating it seasonally because it's so small and easy to do. Just one or two snowmen in there makes all the difference for now!
Love your books though. Mine are more like "Dial M For Murder." Can't really decorate with those...except maybe at Halloween! ;)
Cheers!
Yes, Debbie, we're staying warm, although a cold front is moving its way across the ocean, giving us high surf warnings today (Friday) and Saturday. Blows my plans to spray paint right out to sea.
Happy weekend, and hafa adai from Guam,
Kelley~
Okay, you clever thing - had to PIN the Bobbsey Twins and Scrabble vignette. LOVE it! I have three of those vintage volumes I'll be featuring in my Etsy shop soon. Love decorating with books and words!! And, in South Jersey - I haven't had warm hands or feet for weeks. Sub zero here, too. I feel like a hedgehog all rolled up and trying to keep tight and cozy against the cold. Enjoy your mild winter down there . . .
Joy!
Kathy
Hi Debbie,
This is so cute and cozy!! I love the way you've combined some favorite winter-themed books with pine cones, snow man, and candle to make a winter vignette. The framed sheet music and the yarn in winter blues are perfect additions to the decor.
I love that you included the Bobbsey Twins book; I read some of those, but I have to say that Nancy Drew was always my favorite. I had all those hardback books at one time. Books have always been such a huge part of my life, I love to see them being used throughout other people's homes.
I guess my favorite rooms to change seasonal decor in would be our den and living room, but I add smaller touches to the kitchen and dining room as well. Great post for a cold winter week, Debbie!
Hugs to you,
Denise
Well what I saw right away is your heart and what you love. Gentle. Hey I used to read the Bobbsey Twins too. Hugs, sandie
Love that you are so intentional about decorating the "powder room". Everything you do screams DEBBIE to me, and I love that.
Stay warm my friend.
This powder room looks great. I'll bet it's a favorite of everyone else too!
This is really cute and I love the way you tie everything together with your WWWW (Wonderful way with words!)
I decorate seasonal in our dining room, living room, and family room, but not the powder room (except at Christmas.)
Enjoyed it all!
Katherine
Love your framed "Baby its Cold Outside" and your Bobbsey Twins book. Laughing out loud about having a captive audience in the powder room. My family jokes about my "museum shelves" in our guest bath. They claim it makes people stay longer in the bathroom. Is this room still your craft room, or is that another bathroom? laurie
I like your powder room decor, Debbie. I haven't read your favorite "Long Winter" book, but I'd like to.
