Miss Whimsy will have a first thing
this morning,
and I get to tag along.
It's primary day here in Georgia,
and today,
she gets the right to cast her first vote.
We've gone through our stacks of propaganda...
We've answered
(and answered and answered)
those tape recorded phone calls...
We've checked out the candidates...
I've even called one or two myself.
We think we're ready.
We take it seriously around here.
This won't be her first trip to the polling place. She's been going since she was just a few months old. Around here, voting days have always been family holiday. We deck out in our red, white, and blue and make a patriotic spectacle of ourselves...
... which would be the reason that there was once
an enormous photo
on the front page
of the local newspaper,
above the fold,
of my patriotic posterior
bent over the ballot box
with The Practical One's tiny hand resting upon it
for contrast.
A proud moment indeed.
I missed The Practical One's first vote. She was away at school and had to settled for an unadventurous absentee ballot. Fortunately, she gets me. She had a friend record the moment and emailed me the picture.
Today, it will be live action photo time as we head out to enjoy the most basic delight of being an American citizen. The paprazzi have followed Miss Whimsy every step of the way.
Look who showed up to watch her register.
We got a kick out of this sign as we exited the courthouse that day.
Just perfect.
Lookout politicians,
Georgia has a new voter...
By the way, if anyone is keeping count,
this is my 99th post...
Which means that my next post is
number 100.
I might just party 'til the cows come home.

My kids too have always followed along with mom and then were given the "I voted" stickers which they would wear the rest of the day.
I also accompanied Nick on his first vote .... he knew who he wanted and it didn't match me, but I was still happy for him since he gave me good reasons for voting that way .... (essentially "vote the bums out").
I never thought to bring my camera along ....
You are so funny! I hate you didn't include the front page picture of your posterior! I think it's great that you take pictures of all the major moments. I'm the same way!!
Ben is wearing his "I'm a Georgia Voter" sticker today after accompanying me to the polls. It was a slim crowd, but I consider voting my license to complain if it doesn't go my way. (Because that's what it's all about, right?)
Congratulations to your newest voter! I remember casting my first vote like it was yesterday. It was an identical experience to Miss Practical's. The best part was my candidate won! (In a gubernatorial race in a state in which I was no longer living...but still, my vote helped!)
Way to go, teaching your girls to vote. I must admit my mom bugs me until I do it. But everytime I go I feel so good afterwards...like I have done the right thing ;)
I'm all for teaching children how important it is to vote!!! Way to go. Now, we need to see that photo!!!(the booty one-lol!)
Love it!! My son will be voting for the first time this year also. He is excited but also wants to be very informed before he does it. He knows this is a very big deal. He will be voting his beliefs and convictions not just doing what mom and dad want him to do.
Debbie, I was rolling at your "patriotic posterior." LOL!
Love this, Debbie! I'm a big believer in exercising the right to vote. Neat! :-)
So proud of our newest Georgia voter! I guess there weren't any posterior photos this time?
Hugs and thanks for helping me finally become a legitimate follower.
This is cute... Glad to see you take your freedom to vote seriously. I love the "watch your step" picture, how appropriate.
So would this be a bad time to mention that I accidently voted against part...no?
Don't panic mom, I'm just kidding!
Love,
Best daughter ever
