Doing the Bobble Stroke

This week's Simple Pleasure is brought to you
 by the Duchess's pool.

That would be by the pool...
As in,
the place where I lounge with my shiny red Kodak.

I don't dive. Don't ask me.

I don't cannon ball either...

Maybe it's just me, but I think a 49 year old woman looks a little foolish
trying to hold both knees and nose
while leaping off a spring board in a purple tankini.

Water-up-the-nose is one of my 426 phobias.

Oh, I can swim if I want to.
I just don't want to.
I can also restyle my hair, but I don't want to do that either.

So I'm perfectly content to noodle about in the water,
keeping  my chin just above the surface so as to save the pouf on the roof.
It's a move I learned from the Duchess, the undisputed Bobble Stroke Queen.
The woman hasn't gotten her hair wet in a pool since 1971.

It may not seem very refreshing to you, but it's more than enough for us.
In fact, noodling about in the water is a simple summer pleasure.

OK, I'm chuckling...

Though I am a bit disappointed that there was no picture of Pouf Woman noodling - I am intrigued by the puzzle of who the mysterious cannon-baller was. Hmm...

I am also one of those hold-your-nose girls. I'm trying to remember if I held my nose when I got baptized at 14. (Probably - I'm sure God understood!)

That is one of the most inviting pools I've seen in a long time. I'll be right over - and yes, I'm going to take a walk on the wild side. This 57-year-old is going to cannonball in - just for your entertainment - and yes, I'll be getting my hair wet.

I think.

The Dutchess's pool is a beauty! I'd love noodling around in a pool like that. Makes me almost, almost miss mine that I had in another life. I do have one here in my development but haven't ever been in it. I hate getting my face wet, even in the shower I freak a little. :) xo

YOur pool is wonderful and I love to just Bobble too. NO hard swimming, just relax and enjoy. Hugs, Marty

I'm one of those who has learned how to bobble in the pool without getting her hair wet as well. I also manage to keep the sunglasses and visor intact. Get my hair wet, not on purpose!

so refreshing! This is so funny that you should post about this today. I read your post from yesterday, and started to suggest that you do a tablescape out by the pool with beach balls. You may have already done one and I missed it, but, I said to myself "she might not have a pool". And then today you show up with this post. TOO FUNNY! Love how you captured the splash!

Sounds heavenly. [o= I am a shade seeker at the beach. I find a patch and sit and knit. Yes that is beach time for me while my men are out enjoying the water. Hee he I love the poof on the roof phrase. [o=

We don't have a pool at this house but I've been taking advantage of my brother's all summer. I think if I tried a cannonball I'd probably have to be put in traction.

Join the club, doll - I'm a noodler, myself. ALways have been. I don't consider myself even water-safe these days - though there was a time I think I could swim . . . once . . . upon a time . . .

Was in a pool for the first time in two years a couple of weeks ago. Noodled and only got my face wet when a 6 year old cannon balled practically on top of me! Kept the sun hat on the roof. Big bug sunglasses, too. Floated for an hour til all the kids arrived - I was outta there! Migraine by day's end.

Glad to know I'm not alone at poolside these days.

You yak - I laugh - thanks for the post!
Joy!

Noodling sounds perfect to me! Like I always say "believe it or not, it takes work to make my hair look like this!!!":@)

I'm still laughing and a member of the noodling club, too. 'Pouf on the roof'....lol Love it!

I know exactly what you mean by noodling. I believe I'm a noodler myself, just didn't know it was noodling, that's all. The pool looks heavenly by the way.

haahhhaaaa. me, too. I loved swimming when I was young...don't give a flyin' flip for it now.
I sure do love to watch the grands playing in the water, tho.;))

Ahhhh! I love it! You were right, she has the exact same liner on the bottom as me but a different pattern on top. Is that someone splashing or a water feature? I've been noodling and dipping actually! It's been so hot that its very hard not to go all the way under occasionally. Also, I've renewed my love of doing the backstroke so the hair is getting wet. Though I am sure if I have company around I will not be wanting to mess up the pouf either. LOL!

Debbie, the blue water and the spray in this picture looks so refreshing! This heat has been brutal. My Mom also used to swim with her head above the water; it was so cute. My parents had a pool at their previous home, but they finally got tired of all the maintenance, so they don't have one at this house. This post brings back fun memories for me. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!

Debbie,
Why don't you just get one of those fancy pink bathing caps with rubber flowers all over it? Then you don't have to worry about the whole hair hassle!
Of course I'm sure it's never an issue for Sir Lotsa Hair.

Chatty Crone said...

Oh my goodness a pool is indeed a pleasure - not always simple though - lol. Boy did it look nice and refreshing - where are you and your noodles?

Janettessage.blogspot.com said...

Too funny as always,...you are a hoot. Now ask my children when they have even seen me in a bathing suit, more less swimming and getting my hair wet...well there was one time before number 6, and they almost drown me on a wake board...I was on the wake board...my last flair in my 40's.

Enjoy your pool and your noodle!!!

I'm with you, I'm great at doing the noodle stroke!

Girl, I can so relate to the pouf on the roof. I am so like you and the Duchess. I love to swim but so hate to get my hair wet.

Beautiful swimming pool.

The blue pool looks so wonderful! Believe it or not, it is still a little cool here in the northwest to swim. As soon as it gets hot, I am heading to a friends pool!

Oh ya, I get the whole pouf on the roof thing...Gosh why as we get older do we hate getting our hair wet? Noodling around sounds like a great idea!!

Being IN the water and not UNDER the water is just wonderful! Your pool looks like a very refreshing place to noodle around!

I haven't done a cannonball since I was 8. I have horrible sinuses and cannonballs are just not good for this condition. However, I pretty much don't do my hair all summer because I have to get it wet on my own or Brenna will do it for me. Apparently it's not fun to be the only one with wet hair in the pool....

Well my hubby would love that pool - I on the other hand, don't even noodle!
Too many experiences with sunburn keeps this redhead in the shade away from glare on water!
But a nice pool is a great simple pleasure all the same!!

Hi Debbie,
I am with you on noodling around the pool. Love doing that! and you can get great stomach exercise that way if you put it under your arms
and kick your legs straight back, that oughta
work off those waffles, so you don't blame me!! lol

I do love a pool.........my sister-in-law has one but we haven't been swimming there in forever. Those noodles were the best invention I have ever seen. We always take ours when we go to a condo for vacation, makes life fun!!

That is surely a very nice simple pleasure,

We do love that poof on our roof, don't we? And noodling is the ONLY way to spend time in the pool. I, for one, also like the step sitting. (Great for the poof). I might be convinced to go under water IF it was the "other" day for my hair.

The Duchess's new liner sure looks great. So refreshing. Great (any funny) post.

Hi Debbie,
I think you're terrific getting in the water in the first place. Not getting wet hair is totally understandable.
I own 2 bathing suits and they only get wet when I go into a spa with trusted friends who accept that I dont like getting my face wet, and it's not outdoors.

Oh Debbie, I am noodling right with you. You will find me in the pool everyday on my pink noodle ~ have to match my suit ~ and with dry hair!! But, every now and then, some grandchildren armed with wicked little spray things get me right in the hair!! I just had to laugh at this post, because I am forever yelling "Don't get grandma's hair wet!" Fun times!!

How refreshing your pool looks. Can you believe, I have not been in a pool once this year.
I lost so much weight battling candida that getting into cold water would just make me hit the roof. Now that I am well, I am starting to gain my weight back so.... maybe one day I can noodle too.

Tami said...

This got me laughing, because I can so relate. I absolutely do not like going under water-I hardly like getting wet. I get way too cold which leads to me being grumpy :) And my little nuts love to tease me by splashing me!

Crickit said...

We had a pool party recently at our house and I tried the Bobble above the water, but unfortunately my oldest son thought it would be "funny" to dunk his dear ole mom.

So... what could I do? I went with it and enjoyed the rest of the day with the "other wet heads"! LOL!

Debbie,
I not only don't noodle, I don't even go into the pool. I'm a poolside sitter and I watch as others noodle around. HA! Hate getting my hair wet so I stay as far away as I can from "cannonballers! The Duchess's pool is lovely.

It was so hot here the other day that I could have become Esther Williams if only I'd had the suit. Oh, it was hot. I don't want the hassle of a pool until it gets like that. Then I dream of being a mermaid. But most of the time now, I bobble, too, despite the fact that I used to love to swim... butterfly, crawl, breast stroke, water ballet, all of it. Now, I'm lucky to hold my breath. LOL!

XO,

Sheila :-)

Love your term, "noodle in the water". I try to do that, but when there are 4 grands in there with me, I'm not always successful. Pretty pool. laurie
