Mod Podge Monday

With everything that I need to be doing around here, I chose to spend time crafting an inane little valentine craft instead. It's nothing much to yak about, but that has never stopped me before.

I had hoarded these little cubes which came as packing with some curtain rods last fall, and I wanted to use them.

I decoupaged them with some Valentine-ish tissue paper

Then added some wooden hugs and kisses

What I'll do with them, I do not know.
I was thinking maybe a cloche

Maybe some candlesticks

I haven't decided.

In other news,
 apparently, I'm psychic.

Remember my beautiful Japanese magnolias from Friday?

I had no sooner predicted an arctic blast
when The Duchess informed me that one such blast
was on the way.

Well, of course...

She suggested that I bring in a few blooms if I wanted to save them.

I woke to a temperature of 29 degrees this morning.

Yep.

Always listen to your mother...

Deb, I love what you did with the boxes, when I first saw them 'unadorned' I thought "tissue holder", but your suggestions are wonderful. I am glad you have those flowers inside to enjoy. I do love magnolias. xo

The cubes are absolutely fabulous. I love them under the cloche. I am having a Spring Cloche party on March 13th, so keep the juices flowing. Hugs, Marty

You are pretty clever - great use for those boxes. I think I like them as candle holders and I'm sure you will do a pretty table to go with them.
Have a great day Debbie!

Good morning! I love the boxes, especially in the cloche...soo cute. 29 degrees...wow....good thing you listened to your mom, haha...Have a wonderful day Debbie...HUGS

Hi Debbie,

The Valentine boxes are darling! I like the different ways in which you've displayed them. The wooden hugs and kisses are really neat.

I checked the status on our Japanese Magnolia the other day after reading your post. ;-) They seem to still be in the bud stage, fairly tight buds, so maybe they'll survive the cold snap -- who knows. As dumb as this sounds, I had never thought of cutting some small branches like that to put in water. That looks sooo pretty! If mine mine do manage to bloom in this unseasonable weather, I'll have to do that same thing.

Thanks for sharing the lovely pictures, and have a great day.

Hugs,

Denise

You my dear are a good child. Sorry about that.

How did you get the paper to stick on the boxes? I love them in the doche.

Love, sandie

Oh aren't those NIFTY... You are a CLEVER CLEVER girl... Love them :)

I love them! How creative! I am always saving things that I can re purpose, or at least I think I can. When we buy a pizza they come with these little things that look like mini tables to keep the box from touching the cheese.. I have a bag of them, among other things! Dh says I am bound for the Hoarders show!
Sorry about your freeze!

I'm crazy for the candlesticks and love your repurpose idea. Sorry about the blooms. They are (and were) spectacular. Glad you listened to YOUR mother. She's a gem!

You are so creative...I would have never thought of these boxes.

Of course we will keep having artic blasts since it is January (I usually say this in March or April)...our blossoms do bounce back though

I love your blocks! They look great under the cloche, especially.

I think I would even listen to the Duchess, and I don't even know her.

Ooooo, what fun! I needed a decoupage fix today! I just love how creative you are - only you would think of recycling "trash" into a work of art! (I'm kinda partial to the cloche).

29 degrees - it's 65 at my house right now, but supposed to be almost 80 on Thursday. Yes, I know it's unfair. But I like crisp, cold weather, too. (Good thing, huh?!)

Oh how fun...your table is really your signature. I have been putting plates in the Hutch...red and white.

I am so glad you brought in some flowers...so sad, but you kept some of it.

Glad you liked the song, I keep playing it over and over again..I love it.

LOVE the candlestick holders! WHY oh WHY can't I look at a box and think "must keep .... need them to be candleholders..." ??

I may be able to sew, but YOU my friend have all the ideas!

Cheers!

I like the cloche... saying that word makes me feel like I know what I'm talking about. :)

I remember my mil used to have a tree just like that in their yard and it was magnificent, for about 10 minutes every year. Beautiful, almost looks like a tulip tree.

Thanks for your comments today, it's so true that these blogs are a fellowship that is precious! And you are one of those special ones!

Debbie, If I didn't love you so much I would really be jealous! I mean really jealous, you are so gifted and talented. I truly mean this, Oh my I am just going ahead and admit it i am jealous! ~smile~ a beutiful job you did. And I am in total agreement "always listen to your mother", the blooms are beautiful.
I still say the Duchess needs to start her a blog, and I will be her first follower.
Thanks for taking the time to visit and for taking the time to leave me such sweet notes. I am always so blessed.
Enjoy your week.
Hugs,
Sue

You are soooo smart to use them as candleholders! Too cute! Love them with the cloche too. Precious! I have done ZERO for Valentine's Day. I am so behind!

By the way, I awarded you with The Versatile Blogger Award. BUT, it won't hurt my feelings if you don't want to pass it on and do a post. ;)

So glad you listened to your mother and brought some of those beauties inside.
I am convinced that there must be a crafting gene that I never got at birth, I am always amazed at some of the ideas you come up with. These cubes are cute

Creative thoughts, actions, and yakking are like breathing to you, aren't they!?

Love your curtain rod box re-do - perfection and versatility in one!!

Glad you could salvage a couple of your magnolias - sorry about the cold. We've had the cold here - and everyone is sick it seems - my daughter is home today and I'm playing nurse.

And actually scrolling through my blog list - wow! I'm feeling decadent with such leisurely pursuits like blog reading and commenting mid-day.

You've inspired me - mod podge here I come!!!!!

Joy!

Debbie,
I just said to Mister, oh, look, there's Debbie. I love her!
And you know what? It's true!
I always notice that trees leaf out and bloom and turn fall colors from the top down. That's wonderful.
Sorry to hear about the 29 degrees. Hopefully it's warmer now. We had 63 degrees up here in PA today!

These cubes are adorable, Debbie!

I never considered Valentines a "favorite" holiday (of mine, that is) ... but now, well there's a juggling act going on in my mind!

Canadagirl said...

Oh you are just TOO creative! I love both ideas and it is hard to choose which I like better. And those flowers are to die for. I am glad you brought some in to enjoy. It would have been sad if you didn't.

Blessings and ((HUGS))

PS: Thank you so much for your sweet encouragement. I needed it. ((HUGS))

Thought I'd left a comment yesterday. Apparently it didn't go through. Just wanted you to know how much I love your valentine boxes. I love them both ways. Perhaps you could even use them on your mantel for the holiday. I would never have even thought to save those cute boxes. You're always thinking.

On another note, so happy you listened to our mother about those flowers. She does always know what's best, doesn't she? I'm not sure people realize your temp was at 29 in the morning but is still in the 60's and 70's every afternoon. That will really mess up our spring, won't it?

Thanks for the post. Nice way to lighten up my day!

You are so clever! Those boxes came out so cute! I think I like them with the candlesticks. After VDay you can always remake them for the next holiday.

Glad you brought some blossoms in. Hopefully the super cold morning didn't kill the blooms on the tree.
