So apparently, Blog Land is about to experience some version of the movie Brigadoon.
You know the one. It's where Gene Kelly happens upon a mystical land which appears only one day every 100 years. After that, it just disappears into the mist as everyone sleeps.
(If you have never seen it, go rent it now.
I'll wait...)
Good, huh?
And apparently, our little Blogadoon will happen this very night. Kinda creepy to my way of thinking... I don't know about the rest of you, but I have an oddball urge to sit up and watch my home page to see what happens. I mean, will it happen all at once, or will blogs just start fading off the page, one by one? Will I be able to hear the little blogpipers, but not be able to see them?
That's the kind of stuff that keeps me up at night, people.
However it all goes down, there's one thing I know. Tomorrow, I will no longer be able to hop up and down my semi-trusty blogger homepage to visit favorite blogs. To a right brained blonde who requires a map from the den to the kitchen, that's very frustrating.
I don't do change well.
I multi task even worse.
I've seen a lot of blogs sharing the best way for folks to follow them in the event of a Blogadoon Disaster, but this post isn't about following me; it's about how I plan to keep following you.
You see, as much as I enjoy blogging, it was reading the thoughts and ideas of others that drew me into this whole fairy tale to begin with. Simply put, I like you and don't want to lose you to the mist.
Here's my plan:
From what I can tell, Blogspot blogs will not be affected as yet. I checked all my blogs, and the majority are Blogspot anyway. That being the case, I still plan to use my blogger homepage as my base of operations. It's just simpler that way.
I did make sure to sign up for Linky Followers and have followed any Blogadoon who has offered up that option. I did not do Linky Followers for Blogspot blogs because I'm going to keep following you the way I always have...for now. I also put a section on my sideboard for blogs who aren't Googley Friends to see if it's easier to follow that way. (Of course, I'm really lame about updating that side board over there so we'll have to see how that goes...)
Anyway, that's what I am planning to do unless someone gives me a better plan.
So tell me...
How are you planning to keep up with the blogs you follow
when the mist rises on Blogadoon?

In other news, my keyboard has arrived! Of course, I don't have a husband home to install it so it will have to wait until Friday. Please don't suggest that I do it myself. I don't install keyboards; I just baptize them.

Oh Debbie, this is such a cute post. You have such a great way with words and clever, clever sense of humor. :-D
Believe it or not, I've never seen Brigadoon, but I think my Hubby has. Since I love anything English/Irish/Scottish I can't understand why I haven't seen it. I'll have to put that on my list.
Anyhoo, I don't know what to expect with this Google Blogger thing. I'm trying to follow my friends on Linky Follower as well. But then our dear Alycia of "Tablescapes at Table Twenty-One" and Mary at "Home Is Where The Boat Is" are both on Word Press. Thankfully I get their posts through e-mail subscription. Beveryly at "How Sweet the Sound" is on Type Press I believe, so I'll have to follow her another way, I guess.
I'm like you; I DON'T do change well, and I DON'T multi-task well. I guess we'll muddle through. Thank goodness for e-mail.
Thanks for the great post and have a wonderful day!
Denise
I don't have my own blog. I just want to continue being able to read yours, Debbie. Hope what ever is going on in blog land doesn't affect me. : D
Cheers!
Well, it is evident that I do not listen to the radio, watch TV or read the newspapers.
I have no clue what you are referring to about the blog thingie but I will go rent Brigadoon--on my computer--smile!!!!!!!
I hope Google will be benevolent and movie followers to Google Reader. Although, in the long run, I just think it's best for everyone to subscribe via RSS because eventually Google will discontinue Followers for everyone not just non-blogspot blogs. They really want to push their google+ thing.
We'll see tomorrow how it all plays out.
Oh no, I find the WHOLE thing soo confusing...I am not sure WHAT it is that is happening, let alone how to fix it. Please tell me there is not a chance I could lose everyone. I simply follow the favorite blogs thing on my home page of my blog and click to them as a new one comes up. Am I not going to be able to do that anymore?? Hate to expose my ignorance here, but it wouldn't be the first time. Better look into this further, sigh, and I really don't have the time today....Hope you are having a good day...HUGS
It's been years since I've seen Brigadoon, but it's definitely a good one! As for BlogaDOOM, who knows! Last night I copied the list of blogs I follow and pasted it into a blank document. That way I'll at least remember the names of blogs I like to visit -- even occasionally. If they disappear from my sidebar list overnight (which I'm guessing they will when their faces disappear from my followers box), I can decide tomorrow exactly what to do. I suppose I'll either follow by RSS feed or by email. I could start my own blog list and add the links manually, but I'm not sure if that's where my time needs to go right now -- or if I'd keep up with that very well. Like you, though, I really don't want to lose touch with my bloggy friends, so I hope when it's all said and done, we'll figure out how to find each other. Good luck!
BlogaDOOM. LOL! Susan, that's good.
I have absolutely no clue what RSS feed is. How lame am I?
You make me smile.
Oh no, I don't know a thing about this either. I'd better go read up on it. I'm glad you're ahead of the game though!
Seriously my head is in the sand -- I want it all to stop. They are closing Picnik so I can't edit photos and am too old to learn a new editing program and NOW this. I guess I just plan to wait and see just what happens -- that was the same tactic I used during Y2K -- worked out pretty well then :)
Blessings!
Gail
I am sure you can sign up for emails on my side bar. [o= I made it easy for anyone. I hope all goes well for you sweet friend. I love reading your post. I now have to go see if I can find that movie now, lol. I remember when Gene Kelly was in Xanadu too. Hmmm maybe he has a thing for fantasy movies.
Blessings and ((HUGS))

I have no clue what all of it is about and right now I don't have the time to figure it out..seems God is having me watch my time lately and learning more about blogging isn't on the list.
I don't want to miss anything from the blogs I follow...I just personal have come to love all of the ones I follow...not their blogs as much as them as the person...and yes the blogs allow me to do that.
So I guess at some point I will have to learn something...right now I am just adjusting to what God has me focused on for right now.
I hope I don't loose you...you are a dear virtual friend.
I have gotten - as many as will give me - their email address. It will be interesting or is this going to be like the year 2000 and the computers? Love knowing you - lol - sandie
That sounds kinda scary, Debbie, but perhaps I don't have to worry right now cause IO havbe blogspot. I don't know why they have to change things when they are working. Thank you so much for praying for my sister...Christine
You're sooo funny, Debbie!
Love how you made a comparison to one of my all-time fav movies.
I wasn't aware of this change, yet I'll be indignant on your behalf, OK?
Best wishes on Della's upcoming transplant!
Myra
I am completely clueless as how this whole googling thing with affect my life! I too am hoping that since the bulk of the blogs I follow are blogspot it will be okay (really I'm just crossing my fingers and toes). I did put the Linky Followers thing on my sidebar, but truthfully, I'm not even sure how to check anything on it....sad I know.
I'm an old dog and I can learn new tricks..I just don't wanna! With a little luck I'll still be able to find you.
I have just been in denial that anything is going to change in my blog world. I may wake up to disaster in the morning... but, for today, we are blogspots... so we are safe. Debbie, have I told you how much I enjoy your writing? Not in a few days. Well, I do. blessings ~ tanna
Oh Debbie, you make me LOL! I don't think we are going to hear bag pipes LOL! I put the blogs I follow on my blog side board so I can follow them there. There has been a lot of conversation about blogger taking friends connect away, but that is just a bunch of Henny Penny the sky is falling, blogger has never mentioned it for anyone but non blogger blogs. We will all be OK, I hate change too
Carol
Very cute post, and Brigadoon is one of my FAV movies.
Now I'm scared. I use blog spot for my blog, so I hope I'm ok.
D
LOL! I've just chosen the wait and see method. I'll see tomorrow what happens and worry about it then.
Used to just love that show! Really I don't think I even understand what is going to happen! Hope that since I am with blogspot I won't struggle too much.
Raising my hand as one who has never seen Brigadoon either.
As for followers I so clueless over this whole thing, I did add Linky to my blog after reading some other bloggers who were touting the end of the world as we know it in blogland that was coming.
yikes!!! not more changes. I didn't hear about this but maybe that's a good thing b/c just trying to get a new computer to replace my 2 1/2 year old dead one has been driving me crazy. And like you I forget to update sidebars and link pages. :( I just hope the changes are user friendly. Have a gentle thursday......hope it's the best for you.
I love your analogy! So funny.

I must be out of the loop because I have no idea what you are talking about. This morning when I checked my blogs they are all there, I think. So, what happened?
I'm just going to wait and see what occurs. But in the meantime I am subscribing to my favorites via email. That way I will see when they have a new post automatically. I think that's the best way to go if you don' mind emails. I don't get a lot of emails so it's kinda fun having blog posts arrive in my Inbox.
PS I don' see a way to subscribe to you via email. If u go to the Design page and Add A New Gadget, there should be one available. Please?
You know far more about all of this than I do, friend! I don't think anything has changed on my blog. I turned off and deleted my google history yesterday and thought I was ahead of the game...who knew? Probably everyone but me!
Wondering too...
I guess we just have to wait & see.
P.S.S. Nevermind on the email thingie. I found it and am now assured to receive your updates via email, no matter becometh of Blogger.
Ha, I love your take on it all. Honestly I have not put that much thought into it. What will be will be...how about a little Doris Day in there. I do have the linky thingy on too. I will add my name to yours as well.
Listen to you, all holier than though. Baptizing the keyboards... ;)
I've been so out of it. This is the first I've heard of this 'blogadoon'. I guess I really do need to watch the movie ;)...
I've never been able to follow anybody. When my daughter set up the blog account she put hers, mine and my youngest daughter all on the same one. We didn't know any thing. I wanted the girls to have a little blog to put together some practical writing and use their typing... It was a last minute decision on my part when I hollered in to her, "make me one too!" I decided on a name in less than a minute, just for fun. Of course I am the one that monopolized the blog page. I found that I really enjoy blogging and they, not so much. Still it is our endeavor and I don't want everything I do showing up on their pages... Its taken a bit of intentional navigating but it works. So I'll just do what I've always done. Go to my previous posts and find the links (via comments) to the people I love. Love ya!
Blessings, Debbie
I always enjoy how you are able to make us smile at difficult situations, Since I don't have a followers widget, I get to flow right through googles changes. I know you will get it worked out. I always star by going to my previous post and visiting my last commenter. I then go to my blog list and start with my other favs. I am also able to follow by clicking on follow on my nav. bar. Well have I confused the situation even more? ~smile~
Enjoy your weekend.
Hugs,
Sue
I. AM. SO. CONFUSED.
Now, as to this blog stuff - confusion doesn't even begin to cover it. Just when I think I've "mastered" a computer skill, somebody has to go and mess with my stuff.
Hoping that it will all work out in the end.
I love what you did on the sideboard - such a clever girl you are!
No matter what happens, I'll find you...
I'm like so many others who don't understand what is going on! I hate change too and feel "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!" Why can't they just leave well enough alone!!
I can't really see any difference yet, can you?
Glad to see you now have the subscribe to email thingy. It still takes a day to get to my Inbox, but at least it reminds me to go there!
Katherine
Haha! This was a good one. I certainly hope I don't have blogs I follow that disappear into the mist. LOL! I didn't realize there was an actual date. Now I will have to look to see who has disappeared. Hope things are up and running w/the new computer parts by now and you can put all your PC troubles behind you. Have a blessed day!
Laughing from beginning to end of this post! You are brilliant, and this is one blog I'd sure hate to lose. I love all of the smile therapy you give me. laurie
Love Brigadoon. Hate all my confusion about followers disappearing in the mist. I know something was changing, but didn't - don't - know what exactly. Guess I'll figure it out when I don't get any more followers? Should I import something new?
Ya!
Kathy
All the blogspot blogs I follow can be viewed via RSS. I subscribed via e-mail to all others. Like Dayle, I receive few e-mails (except I do receive blog comments for my approval via e-mail before they're posted on my blog), so it is nice to get the e-mails.
Perhaps I should e-mail subscribe to all the blogs I follow. A thought.
