A May Day Surprise

It seems like I'm getting surprises everywhere these days. First, I had the surprise at the Supercenter, and then, I had a surprise at the front door.

It happened two days ago. You know... May Day. I just didn't get a chance to yak about it until now.

I had finished posting my May Basket tablescape, which included a little lamentation about the fact that children in this area do not leave little doorknob delights  around the neighborhood on May Day. In reading comments, I realized that it must not be that well known of a tradition after all. So many folks had never heard of it..

Well, that needs to change, I thought.
What better way than to use the incredible power of my blog.

I was still ruminating about this later in the afternoon when I returned from a little thrifting. I was pulling into the driveway when lo and behold,  I caught the sight of something fluttering from the front door knob out of the corner of my eye.

I'm not making this up, people. My blog power is really that incredible.

I literally ran into the house and through the kitchen and down the hall into the foyer to open the door.

Was it something whimsical like this one from the
ever creative Singing With Birds ?

Or maybe something with rustic sophistication like
this one from  Vignette Design?

Awesome, aren't they?

Unfortunately,
I found neither whimsy nor sophistication
hanging on my door knob that May Day afternoon.

I found this.

A coupon for a fitness center.
Apparently, they do read my blog...
They couldn't have stuck it in a paper cone with a bunch of daisies?

And, there ya go...
Just another day in Paradise.
No May basket.
No giggling bushes.

Just a few snickers instead.

Girl - you HAD me going - you are so bad - but so good too.

If I lived near you I'd make you a May basket - of course it wouldn't look like any of those!

Love, sandie

My dear and precious friend Debbie I have been up early this morning fasting and praying for many on this National Day of Prayer.

I have prayed for you and yours and will continue to do so throughout the day.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

You totally had me ~ for sure I thought some sweet little child left a scraggly little May basket!
That's even worse than the house cleaners ads!

That just made me laugh... it would be my experience too. When I think I have it all together and have done something right, along comes a brochure for 50% off of hearing aids!! :)

The suspense was killing me! Thanks for the morning laugh... I am laughing WITH you and not AT you! :)

LOL!!! Oh Debbie that was hilarious! If we lived closer I would have had my daughter come bring you a May Day basket. She made one at school for us so now you know that it isn't a completely lost tradition. It's hanging on our bedroom door where I had to pretend to be surprised every time she knocked on it and ran away! :-)

The baskets in your previous post were beautiful.

Ok, so theologically, if everything in our life is "Father filtered" and if being created in His image includes our sense of humor, I'm wondering if He didn't just set this one up to give Himself, you and all of us a good chuckle.

Thanks for the great laugh. You should be a writer in real life, not just in blogland. This was so much fun.

We always did the May Baskets on the door too, but I haven't followed through with the tradition! Shame, shame on me! I love your May Basket table. I need to try next year and get it going in my neighborhood - a perfect way to give away some goodies that I don't want to eat all by myself!

One question - "Just a few snickers instead" - did you mean ha-ha snickers, or Snickers candy bars??

Thought maybe the coupon sent you into a chocolate mood -

Also, that offer - 50% off or 1 month free. Do they mean 50% off of YOURSELF?? THAT offer might get me into a gym after all...

:)

Awwww, I was hoping you got some beautiful flowers to brighten your day! fun post!

FrouFrouBritches said...

That is hilarious! I usually just get flyers from various lawn and garden companies that drive thru the neighborhood to see which yard is he shame of the neighborhood so they can offer their wonderfully expensive services. So, in a way, they're at least offering me flowers, but it's just not the same if I have to pay for them.

Thanks for the giggles. I've had a full day in a Kindergarten class and boy did I need some giggles. ugh!

Girl, you shouldn't make me laugh that hard when it still hurts my groin from the lymph node business!!! LOL! Oh, that sounds so like something that would happen to me!! I get myself carried away sometimes and then boom! Ends up being something like that fitness flyer! LOL! Something I might really need, but NOT what I was hoping for. Thank you for this chuckle... hugs ~ t.

I don't believe it ... someone else finally remembers one of my fav May-day traditions.
Woo-hoo!!!

Usually, when I'd mention leaving treats on front door knobs (in my "olden" days, containers were made from construction paper) .. folks would look at me strangely. So I quit talking about it, and eventually forgot.

What's old becomes new again doesn't it ... let's start a movement!

Wow, I went to my nephew's wedding in LA and missed your post. I'm so sad I couldn't show up with a May Day, flower filled cone for you. What you did get however has me rolling on the floor, and if you take advantage, you will be too!

Hope it was a good one....
