Free Funky Handles

Just a little update on my progress in the cold and remote bathroom that I like to call Siberia. I'm nearly finished with it, at least as much as I can do without spending any money in this No Buy July.

It has been fun.
Actually, No Buy July has been fun.
 Really...

The fact that I had to rely on what I have on hand has been good for the brain.

Joining this zero cost makeover already in progress...

Cabinets before

Stained "oak-ish" cabinets were painted Heirloom White.

I might have picked  a more adventurous color,
but I didn't happen to have an adventurous color around here.
I did happen to have about a quart of Heirloom White
and the matching spray paint for a smooth finish.

So Heirloom White it is.

I used the existing handles since that's the only style I have on hand. (Actually, I have a whole basket full of this style. They were on every cabinet in the place and have been hoarded as I replaced them room by room.

They come apart which makes this project so easy.

I used this stuff.
(Hope that Mod Podge lasts until August...)

I sprayed all parts with some Universal satin to give them some stick 'em. (Would have just used spray primer, but I'm out of it right now. )

Metal parts got a coat of this limey green from a kitchen project.

Ceramic inserts got a little Mod Podge

Polka Dots for the drawers

Stripes for the doors.

And Ta Da.
Free funky handles.

Yes, they are a little wackadoo,
but wackadoo is the look I'm going for
so I'm giving this the thumb's up.

I'll be finished with Siberia this week so I'll show the rest of the project then.
In the meantime, enjoy the other projects on
Metamorphosis Monday

*****
By the way,
can I just take this moment to shout out the auction
 at My Place To Yours?
It's for a very worthy cause.

Those are very nice. What a great idea; you're a clever gal!

Again, you hit it out of the ballpark!
Now, I notice you said you spray paint AFTER you use regular latex paint....why? Does it make for a stronger finish? I will be redoing the kid's bath soon (a 20 year old doesn't need little fishies and jumping frogs all over the walls) and I know I'd like a stronger finish on the cabinets...

Terrific job as usual!
Cheers!

BTW, a big "thank you" for the shout out -- and your bids. Hopefully the auction action will pick up today.

You are another "Woman of Paint" -(a title I made up for blogging friends who can paint better than any man I know at the moment). Those handles are A-MAZE-ING! You could not find them in a store and they would not be inexpensive. Can't wait to see the whole room. xo

I LOVE love those handles!!! Your bathroom cabinets are much nicer than mine which are flat panels and feel like some sort of vinyl or laminate (something not wood).

Those handles look super cute on your cabinet doors.

Hodge podge is easy to make if you have some white glue on hand. It also works well thinned with water to stretch it.

I CAN'T wait to see your bathroom all done.((squirming in my seat)) If the Lord wills it I will get to show you "my" upstairs bathroom this winter. ((REALLY squirming in my seat)) This is the one with the claw foot tub! [o= I hope that this winter I will be able to soak in a bubble bath and enjoy every minute of it till the bath water turns cold. It was my "mom" time and I REALLY miss that. It has been almost 6 years sense I have had a bath tub to soak in. ((dreaming))

Thank you soooooo much for your comment. I will be taking a lot of time this fall and winter getting to "know" God better. I LOVED how you put that and it is sooooooooo true! Thank you my SSiC. ((HUGS))

Blessings and ((HUGS))

hey, just had to reply to your comment: Yes, layering is fun to do in the summer, but only in the elevations higher than 8000 ft. hahaha, in a rain storm (light rain storm).

Love it! Very creative, did you freehand those polka dots and stripes? Great job! I think you have a whole new career ahead of you!!

A long time ago I heard this phrase: "Poverty breeds creativity!" I have used that on many projects! LOL!

Can't wait to see the next stage of Siberia!

C'mon...admit it. No Buy July is killin' you just like it's killin' me!!! I am counting the days!!! This is madness!!! I couldn't buy fresh flowers for my table a couple of weeks ago, and I have run out of several "staples" of decorating which really has me in a pickle. I'm trying to be good, though, so I've immersed myself in other projects. I LOVE your projects!!!!!!! If I had the paint on hand, I would spend my time refreshing our hall bathroom's cabinets and pulls. What a great idea! I'm not that handy with a paintbrush, but I could sure give it a try. I think the hardest part must be taking all the doors off to paint them? It's so blasted hot here, that I'm not sure I could paint them in the garage without them remaining tacky. You've given me inspiration, though, so that sounds like a project for Fall! Great job, Debbie!

Loving these wonky handles, Debbie! I'm guessing there are designers out there whose skin tones are probably turning a most unflattering shade of green.
... Can't wait to see the final reveal!
