Somebody had a birthday today.
No, it's not I. As you might recall, I'm a Christmas baby. The little bit of sunshine born in July was the Farm Sister. Don't tell anybody, but she just turned 52.
Here she is, phoning home from her most recent adventure, a vacation to London last month with her favorite nonDebbie friend.
She's been talking like Mary Poppins ever since.
Now, we try to do a little something special for her birthday every year, but seriously... just exactly how does one follow an act like that? On top of it, her birthday is smack dab in the middle of July.
No Buy July.
What to do?
"No problem," said she.
"We'll just grab an idea off your Sand Pail List
and call it a frugal birthday adventure."
Have I mentioned that she's a very good big sister?
Have I mentioned that she's a very good big sister?
So we grabbed the Sand Pail List. Then, we grabbed that favorite nonDebbie friend, and the three of us got up early to beat the heat to the local walking trail.
The local walking trail is actually a little paved path
that winds its way from one side of my town to the other.
The fact that it's only a mile from start to finish
should tell you just how small this town is.
So really, the only thing that makes it an adventure
is that none of us had ever bothered to walk it before.
Then, we headed back the same way we had come. This time, though, we stopped at some thrift and antique stores at the other end.
We just browsed...
That's because the two world travelers had spent all their
mad money across the pond.
And the kid sister had spent all of hers at The Dollar Tree.
Nevertheless, we managed to have a really good time.
Who says you need a golden egg to enjoy the golden years?
I'm pretty sure a few good friends
and a positive attitude will do just fine.

So Happy Birthday to this Golden Girl.
Who, in case you missed it, is 52...
And I'm not.

Time together with the people you love is priceless, sounds like a great way to spend a birthday to me
Haha - that why having an older sister is great - right? And she is adorable - so Happy Birthday to your sister!
Love, sandie
She's beautiful, and she sure doesn't look 52!! I'm so glad the rules are changing, today's 50's and 60's are as young as yesterday's 30's and 40's! It works for me!! :)
Happy birthday to your big sister!
I love being the younger sister.
Happy Birthday to Farm Sister! It sounds like a great day to me. I went to $ Tree yesterday but I was good, just $9, and one was a toy to donate to a military family. xo
Oh don't ya just love having an older sister to tease? I sure do too. Yours is soo cute, and sure doesn't look that 52! Happy birthday to her. Looks like a perfect day to me!
"Happy Birthday" Denise! Looks like little sis pulled out all the stops to make the start of your day extra fit and fun.
Psst, 52 looks great on you.
I was wondering how the Farm Sister's trip over here went. Looks like she had a good time. I'll bet you got a lot more for your dollar at Dollar Tree that sister got in Harrods!
Glad to see you're marking things off your sand pail list.
What a great birthday gift to her! The stuff that really matters - time and love!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. It was a wonderful birthday. Time spent with those whom I love and cherish means more than anything. I started my day with a tear or two (just not the same without that twin of mine) but you two turned my tears to joy. I had soooooo much fun. Let's do it again. Maybe when it's cooler.
I appreciate you not posting the pics you took yesterday since I am positive what my hair looked like with all this humidity. Respect for your elders is a smart thing. Since I am 52 and you are not...
She is making 52 look amazing! I've never much appreciated a smart-aleck baby sister. Wonder how she feels about it. ;>
Happy Birthday to your sister! 52 & fabulous!
That sounds like the perfect way to spend a birthday...including the chocolate doughnut...not that I'm saying she was the one who ate it! We YOUNGER sisters just know how to celebrate our OLDER sisters don't we? ;-)

Sounds great!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Denise!!! I think a trip to London is a pretty good celebration, even if she did take a non-Debbie friend.
I am sure y'all had a great time, well at least the non-exercise part of the adventure. ;)
Your sis looks great for 52. She looks way younger. Just being together is the best gift. Sounds like you two had a nice time.
Oh I am laughing again! My brother is 13 months older than me and nope I never let him forget it, especially that month when he is 2 years older than me. Glad you and the old gal enjoyed your day, Good thing that path was wide enough for her wheelchair!

Hi Debbie,
I got sooo excited when I saw this picture, because I was pretty sure that someone had been to London!! How nifty! Your sister is so cute -- she looks just like a brunette version of you. :)
It sounds like she had the perfect birthday celebration with two of her favorite people. I'll be 52 in a few months, so I'm glad you're being respectful of your elders. ;)
Hugs,
Denise
I'm with Denise at Forest Manor... I'm knocking on the door of 52 myself -- and glad you've learned to respect your elders!
Your sister looks fabulous, and I'm so glad she enjoyed her trip abroad. London is so much fun! Ever since my older daughter moved back to the States, I've missed those trips. Happy Birthday one day late, Denise! I hope you have a wonderful year!
What a great idea! Are you and your sis the only siblings?
Gosh, from the grin on her face, to your FAB personality, I can only imagine the FUN and GAMES you must have experienced as children.
OK, I'm NOT knocking at 52's door....it's long passed....but I loved this post! ILoved not only that your sister visited London recently, but that you were able to give her a gift of love. Wonderful!
Cheers, and Happy birthday to your farm sister!
Wow that is one young looking 52 (and I'm not either :) ) and a trip to London , geee that is a great birthday trip !
hahah. loved this post. Having just got back from London I loved seeing the pictures. I loved how you wrote your sister spent her money across the pond and you at the dollar tree. A huge happy Birthday to her....and a wish for you to have an awesome day out there.
52 is a sweet memory. Remind me not to tell you that I'll be turning 60 this year.
I'm glad you had a good time with your sister, and that she didn't beat you to a pulp for being a pesky younger sibling. ;-)
