Flower Power Tools

The current COPY CAT challenge at Debbie Doos couldn't have come at a better time for me.  I actually have something to share, and it goes with my current crafting space project.

Several months ago,
I saw this idea to give your tools a little personality
on the blog  A Fish Who Likes Flowers

She used duct tape on hers.
Cute, huh?

The minute I put up that peg board in my Siberian craft space,
I knew that I had to give my tools a little personality too.
Unfortunately, I didn't have any cute duct tape.
I decided to do something else instead.

Boring tools...

White Fusion paint.

Tissue paper and Mod Podge

And there ya go:
Flower Power Tools

Go ahead and laugh.
That's what the husband did.

He kept laughing even after I explained the logic behind it. (There is some logic, you know.) Not only are they fun and festive, but they will be much easier to locate when they go off on scissor and tool adventures and leave their assigned post.

For some reason, my scissors and tools are prone to meandering.

This little project will keep me
from invading the sanctity of his tool box
on such a regular basis.
That's exactly what I told him.

The husband isn't so sure about that.
He did assure me, however, that it will definitely keep him from invading mine.

*****
In case you're interested:
I used two coats of Fusion paint and then cut out the individual flowers. I'm giving them another protective coating of  Mod Podge, and I might give them a coat of clear varnish as well. I haven't decided yet.

A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!! Best thing about it? It marks whose tools they are. :)

Ok,this is too cute and perfect for your new craft room. What a great idea to use tissue paper! I'm so happy for you, you made it through No Buy July!

I will have to say my first thought when I saw the tools was...well I would never have to worry about my sons "borrowing" one of my tools again and if said tool did decide to wander I would be able to spot it in a second...well done!

These are really adorable! So cheerful. You did a great job on the copycat!

As soon as I saw the first photo I thought "I would like floral tools" and then, I saw you created very cute floral tools.
As they say, great minds think alike.
Your project turned out very cute.

You are so funny, and your tools are just adorable! I love to read your creative blogs, they always make me smile.

The logic of the flowers is right on... I have lost my wandering scissors more times than I want to admit. I now have 2 pairs of them in every room where I use them, and who knew all I needed was mod podge and some flowers. :)

Duh, why didn't I do that? My son gave me a zebra hammer for Christmas last year. I wanted a girly one so the guys around here would leave mine alone. If I would have thought of this, I would have taken one of their hammers and decorated for me!

I love those flower power tools! No need to worry where these jewels belong...in the crathroom. I can just picture Sir Lotsa Hair using one of these cuties. Not. Jam up copy cat. Maybe I'll try this project for my tools.

Oh I started laughing..because remember I organized our garage, put up peg board and put all the tools in place...where are all those tools now? Now if I do this then I bet my sons will refuse to use them...I mean I have hidden my drill and they still find it. So thanks for the inspiration...this mother of boys is going to take her can of PINK! spray paint...see no money spent...and paint up my tools!!!!!!!!
Great job girl...you are still on a roll.

Ohhhhhhhh.....I just love this! I am so going to copy cat you on this. I don't like the "girl" tools you buy because they just aren't as durable as Wonder Hubby's, so I am going to revamp some of his cast offs like yours :) Then, I will NEVER EVER have to answer when the Hubs bellers "what have you done with my (fill in the blank) because now he will KNOW he has just misplaced it! Wooo hooo....can't wait to do this and set him up! lol Thanks for sharing.

Could your "new" tools come over to my house for awhile? 'Cause I sure would have fun using them, as they're positively adorable.

I would varnish... We don't those powers losing their flowers.

I bought mine like that and, believe me, yours are just as darling and saved your hubby all kinds of moolah. =D

You are the modge podge queen, Debbie. I love it!!! so precious! I need to buy me some tools and do that. Hubby's tools are in the black hole of tool closts. ugh! I can never even find his hammer.

No Buy July is over so technically I could buy a hammer. :D

Coloring Outside the Lines said...

I'm stealing this idea- maybe dh will leave my hammer alone if it is covered in flowers!

Debbie~ I love your flower power tools! I'm laughing with you, not at your tools~ I'm sure your tools will not be borrowed by your hubby :)

I love your flower power tools and the "logic" behind them.

And, while we're at it, I love your whole crathroom!!! (I just finished reading your last post.)

My hubby doesn't know it yet but you've inspired me to get out my glue gun! I hope he's as understanding as your hubby when he sees whatever it is I come up with. :)

This is fate!!! My son went to Ace Hardware to pick up another can of stain for me. He told me about the Pink Hammer and other tools.

Then, he asked "Who would want THAT!" I answered..." I WOULD and you and your dad WOULD NOT...good reason to get them!!!"

I already have my own tools...I just have to follow your tutorial here...so cute to hang on my peg board in my hobby room!!!

Adorable!

My car is blue and has a white line of stitching down either side with a large sewing needle at the back end. My husband and sons never want to borrow my car from some odd reason....

Well, Deb, this is too grand! Just more inspiration for me to put on my list of "must do" that I will probably NEVER get to! Already unnumbered posts behind this summer in all my big plans. Life happens, though, and once I get all my projects off the ground for my "work" I hope to be in coasting mode so I can "play" and post!

You are too fun!
Joy!
