Uh Oh... Guess What Day It Is?

It might be Hump Day in every other corner of the world, but in my world it's something even better. It's Over The Hump Day!

Yessiree, I'm finally here  to announce that I'm
over the hump.

Actually, it's even better than that. I'm over two humps.  I'll talk about the bigger one in a day or two. Today, I'm just stopping in to yak about the first hump, the big old camel that has been camping out in my living room for over two decades.

Meet Cindy the camel back.

Don't judge me...

Back in the day, she was downright stylish. Anybody out there remember? Back when we had big patterns to go with our big hair...

Waverly wannabe florals...

In jewel tones, no less.

No, young Cindy wasn't  unattractive. (Trust me, youngsters. You can check it out in your historical design books from the last century.)  It's just that  young Cindy was impractical and trendy.  Cindy the Sofa stayed in style for about 7.2 seconds before the jewel tones gave way to Tuscan orange and large florals became geometrics or some such thing. I don't remember what it was. I missed it completely.

Now, that might have been OK
if I had actually loved Cindy to begin with.
 I didn't.

The jewel toned big hair florals might have been the rage, but they were never, ever,  Debbie. They were... Cindy,  the very aggressive former friend who convinced me to buy that sofa... and a chair to match...and to paint half the homestead to go along with them.

The sofa outlasted that toxic friendship by over a decade.

We had other rooms to decorate and daughters to raise and put through college. Decorating stuff took a back seat to the better stuff.

But it's Over the Hump Day!

Ain't she a beaut?

Please say yes because I'm probably going to have this sofa for the next two decades. That's the way we roll around here.  Besides, I very truly happen to love her. She is very, very, Debbie

Of course, I haven't named her Debbie. Who names a sofa after herself?  Even I'm not that goofy.

Her name is Poppins...
Mary Poppins.
'Cause she's practically perfect in every way.

(Too bad I can't say the same for the lighting today...)

And that's all I have time for today. I'll be back soon to yak about the other hump. It's a huge one, too. At least for me, it is. The climbing of it has been keeping me out of Blog Land and in Crazy Land for two weeks now. Yes, I can get that obsessed. (Wait. Wasn't 2014 supposed to be the Year of Balance?)

Happy Over the Hump Day!

*****

By the way, if you're wondering what I did with Cindy the Sofa,
I offered it up to Miss Whimsy for her first apartment.

She said, "Ummmmm... thank you?"

LOL! Poor Miss Whimsey....but nothing a good slip cover won't fix!

Love your new comfy looking, inviting sofa!
I want to give our 20+ year old sofa to Nick for his first apartment....but DH won't go for replacing it right now. And we need the seating in the family room.

Hooray for getting over your humps! :)

I must still be lost in a time warp... I rather like Cindy. I sure do not like my Volkswagens! Enjoy that new sofa now!

Oh, a new sofa is quite a thrill! And what a big change! I am about ready to go more neutral, too. Enjoy Poppins!

Mary is beautiful. And Cindy is the couch-that-should-never-have-been. Don't worry, though, Debbie. I had a large floral couch, too. And in its time, it was beautiful (sorta).

Taupe rules the day again. And your new addition is just perfect. The nice thing, too, with a neutral couch, is if trends change again (as they always do), you can add pops of color and pattern with pillows!

Miss Whimsy - she must adjust. We all know that the best hand-me-downs are sometimes that first platform on which to build to bigger and better (or smaller) style!!

XO

(Can't wait to hear about the other hump. I'm dying with curiosity...)

Love the new sofa, we recently said goodbye to our decades old country plaid living room furniture and went neutral as well. I had the same thought as you, I knew it would be decades before it was replaced again so go with something that can be changed with the every changing styles.

Love your new sofa - you are going to have a lot of fun with pillows. You can get your jeweled floral fix that way if you miss Cindy too much!

I remember the floral sofas! I might have had one, but I'll never tell. Well, they might appear in an old photo or two, if I did have one. haha! Love your new sofa! You can change the look with different patterns and colors in your pillows. Enjoy!

I'm not smiling, I'm laughing out loud!! You are hilarious and I just loved this blog, and especially Miss Whimsey's answer at the bottom. It sounds just like one my kids...
And yes, I do love your new sofa, and the way 'you roll around there' is the way we roll around here!! I also loved comment about the toxic former friend who nudged you right into the camelback choice. I think she may have moved to our town!! :)

Now there's a change! I remember those Waverly prints oh-so-well!
Glad you're rocking your own style now! I'll bet the room is transformed!
I want to find out about the other, bigger hump though......

Perhaps Miss Whimsy can find a slip cover to go over said Cindy.

I do love Poppins! Very, very nice! A decorator on a show I used to watch said to always go neutral on the big pieces because of trends changing etc, and that it is always easier to change curtains and through pillows!

I am very happy for you that you have something in your style now and that you love it!

So long, Cindy - gah! My mom had those gargantuan prints in earth and rust tones with pheasants. I would have preferred the jewel tones - but maybe not for so many decades. Good choice on the happy neutral - very comforting, and comfortable, it appears. Love how your new up-do living room is coming along. So exciting. I tried to discuss white-washing the 1970's paneling in our living room addition from the time but my hubby will have none of it. He likes the dark wood cabin feel. Personally, I'm ready for a wholesale up-do in every room. Not to be had. Little things here and there. Content - while living vicariously through your re-decorating humps.
Joy!
Kathy

Poppins is a charmer. Cindy had her day and you stuck with her for a long time. I love Poppins' color and upholstery.

Oh gosh Debbie, that was a fun post to read! Yes, of course I remember those prints. I know you're happy to see Cindy outta there and Poppins in her place. Your new sofa should withstand the test of time. She's a beauty and you can change out accessories or colors whenever!! I loved seeing a glimpse of the blue light in your hutch window. May you enjoy Poppins for many, many years. xo

ahhh, lovin' that new one. So stylish...so "IN"...so gonna be pretty and in style forever cause she's CLASSIC.
NOW, suck in your breath...I am WANTING a floral loveseat ....yep...in reds...something outrageous ...something a bit on the seedy side...I'll name her....Gypsy Rose Lee...

Miss Whimsy can get a whimsical slipcover! And now she has a good sofa.

Your new one is one you will love a long time. And you can use slips, too, if you tire of it. Slips are a lot cheaper than replacing a sofa!

I have a floral in my LR, which was bought for the sunroom in my last house. But here's the thing: I love it, and it doesn't bother me at all that everyone doesn't love a good floral sofa. Mine also has birds, something else I like. Sooooo -- I am keeping it.

Debbie, this sofa will look great through decades! I love it, and it is timeless. Thanks for stopping by to inquire about the election. Yes, my husband won. I think the election and the aftermath have fried my brain. I'm not sure when I'll get back to blogging, or if I'll return to blogging. My brain may be permanently fried! laurie

Totally related to your renewal!
Got rid of our 1970's plaid plunder.
We are now up to date, like you.

That is funny yet so true, in style for 7.2 seconds! flower made of seaweed?? Love the new sofa, we have had our black leather sofa for 20 years cause it is so durable, blah but durable. It may not last much longer though

GORGEOUS...I don't ever see this couch going out of style. Now the other one, well, I think I had a dress, curtains, purse all in that pattern one time lol! I actually love the colors, but like a lot of decor, it comes and goes out of style.

You're a lot like myself, keeping things until you're almost in the antique business. I kept my two (count 'em) 80's sofas until maybe three, four years ago. I kept telling myself that plaid never goes out of style. And like you, the ones that replaced them will probably stay here until I'm no longer breathing. That's how we roll, too.

I completely love the new look, Debbie. So pretty and stylish.

Poppins is perfectly lovely! Yes,
"very Debbie" I would agree.

So glad you could keep Cindy in the family too. :)

That looks like a comfy couch! That's a couch you could have for decades and never get tired of!

I remember and STILL love the camel back couch! I still have an affinity for floral fabric, too, although absolutely nothing in my house has it. (The little Mr. would squirm relentlessly!)

Your new sofa, Poppins, is gorgeous! Very stylish AND she looks comfortable. She's very streamlined. I like that! The toss pillows look great with it!

Have fun lounging around this weekend with Poppins!

Just "poppin" in to say, yes, indeed
ma'am, she's about perfect in every way.

You will have fun giving her mini "lifts" with changing pillows, etc. when the mood strikes.

I lol'd at the fact Cindy outlived your friendship with know-it-all.

Finally have access to a real computer so I can leave a comment. I absolutely LOVE your sofa and cannot wait to see it in person. I was given the edict that we'll have to wait a few days. As usual you have charmed me with your wit...Poppins indeed. Got to love Miss Whimsy's response. Great post.

I totally remember when that couch was in style!!! I had one very similar, although not nearly as pretty as yours. BUT, I love, love, love the new one even more!!! She's a beauty!! Can't wait to see what the other hump consists of !

I LOVE Poppins! And, I know what you mean about jewel tones, etc. I had a thing with plaid sofas, way back when. I can see you living very happily with Poppins for the next two decades. "She's" gorgeous!

wow, that is a total change. i love them both. i think you can work either. with the more muted sofa you can add bright more vibrant accessories. you know what mean, jellybean? is it comfortable? enough to sleep on? ( :

Debbie, I love your new couch. I am sure you will love it for a long time. I am like you. My red couch will be with me (and my brown one too) for a looooong time because that is how we roll around here too. Joni

I remember when that was just the thing! I also have a 20 year old couch - what was I thinking? But at least the matching love seat and chair are long gone. I covered the couch with a stretchy solid brown slipcover and all that early 90s fabric disappeared. The sofa is last place people choose to sit so it is (sadly) still in good condition. Congrats on the new seat!

You have such a way of making everything fun...over the hump-back! Love your new sofa because you can add pops of color for every season, or just enjoy the calm. She is perfection and I'm happy for you.

Oh you are such a wonderful writer...I am envious! Yes, I know I am not suppose to do that.
This is great. We do the 2 decade sofa around here also. Mine is more than needing to go somewhere..there are reaps in it.
This is great! Enjoy this new sofa, and all the humps you are tackling.

Hi Debbie,

Whew, I finally got back here to leave a comment on this post. Life has been REALLY hectic here these days! I read this when you first published it, and I kind of cringed because we have a camel back sofa in our living room, and it has a floral fabric, too. I still really love ours though, and I suddenly thought, "What if everyone sees my pictures and thinks this is a hideous sofa?" Uh oh. I had a moment of panic and thought maybe I should remove my living room pictures. Floral is definitely out for sofas right now and solids are in. I'd really like to get a new sofa for our den in a solid color fabric.

Your new sofa is BEAUTIFUL, Debbie!! It looks perfectly elegant and sophisticated in your living room, especially with your pretty corner hutch. With such a nice, neutral fabric, you'll be able to use all sorts of pretty throw cushions on this sofa. I just love the transformation that you're making in your living room, bit by bit. My dad loves the camel hump day commercial, by the way. :)

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

Big Hugs,

Denise

Love Mary Poppins! Classic lines that you can completely update any old time with pillows. Great choice. How sweet to pass on old Cindy to Miss Whimsy, who know maybe Miss Whimsy say be a trend starter for retro floral/seaweedy sofas!
