A Soda Shop Adventure

While the sister and I were busy moving daughters into college and enjoying the Macon local color, the Duchess was home playing with dishes.  This week's tablescape is the fruit of her labor.  It's a vintage inspired ice cream party.

She took us on location to a spot of local color in our own hometown.  This old Soda Shop was a local landmark in the first half of the 1900's. The sign has been grandfathered in to the main street design code because it's home to the  Soda Shop Art Gallery.

The Duchess is passionate about this art gallery.
It's a project of the local Downtown Development and allows local artists to showcase their talents. The building and furnishings were donated, and it's staffed by volunteers. The Duchess coordinates all volunteers.

That's why we get to use the place to play with dishes.

The vintage ice cream churn below is a family piece from the 1930's. It usually resides in her kitchen and sits on top of her refrigerator. Basically, her entire kitchen is decorated with vintage utensils from her mother and grandmothers.

Some day, I'll yak more about them.

The ice cream scoop is on loan.
It belongs to the family who owned the Soda Shop.

The ice cream dishes aren't family pieces.
They were purchased on separate antiquing adventures,
 one style for sundaes
 and the other for
 ice cream sodas.

We set the table for both.

Until the invisible people placed their orders...

She used a vintage tablecloth from the trunk that I yakked about last week
and had a little fun with crafting napkin rings.

Even the ice cream treats were per the Duchess's design.
We just followed orders.

I guess that makes us the Soda Jerks...

Why, Look!
The invisible people cleaned their dishes.

Good thing this is all  just pretend,
and we're dealing with invisible calories...
Well, of course!

Thanks to the Duchess and you for sharing this delightful ice cream party. The vintage tablecloth immediately caught my eye because of the cherries...I'm always a sucker for cherries...go figure! What a priceless location to create a party...every element is perfection and steeped in cherished history. I appreciate your visit to meet Miss Peg Nappy. Happy hunting, and I want to see how you use them when you find them. Cherry Kay...get it?...cherries?

Really cute, and of course I'm lovin' the tablecloth! Cool ice cream churn too:@) How fun that a bit of local history was turned into an art gallery!

Would you believe I have those very same sundae dishes? My grandmother left them to my mom when she passed, and my mom passed them on to me. I love them! I usually just make boring old pudding in them though.

This is just so cute I can't stop smiling. The Duchess is great...as are her offspring.

And you (or the invisible people, rather) didn't eat NEARLY enough of those cherries. ;)

The invisible people have HUGE appetites!! Must have had some help from the Soda Jerks!!

I'm going to go eat a few scoops of ice cream in honor of those invisible calories you're talking about...

I don't care for ice cream, but this makes me want some just so I can sit and eat it out of those adorable glass thingies ;) It all looks adorable, cute idea!

Your ice cream table is wonderful!! It took me back to childhood. My grandparents always made homemade ice cream for birthdays. We also had a soda shop in our small little town. So wonderful a tablescape and theme!

Debbie! This is just as cute as pie... uh, I mean ice cream! ;-) Soooooo cute! Love it! You and the Duchess are a great team, and I loved seeing this.

Checking in from exile to say, "Hi," and boy, I'm glad I escaped my chains today. This is too cute to miss. Hope all is well with you and that you got everyone all situated for college. I'll see you in September (no pun intended) when I get back from my blog break. Life has been a jealous mistress of late. I'm trying to check in with as many folks as I can before I crawl back into my "go" mode.

Miss you!

XO,

Sheila :-)

Now this is a table I could spend all day at! You carried the vintage theme to the last detail... that is what makes this so special!
My grandmother had an ice cream scoop just like that!
How kind that they let Dutchess use some of those treasures!
Perfect table to beat the heat this summer!
I'll have 2 scoops, please!

A note about the DUCHESS to answer the two questions posed by Sue and Sandie:

The Duchess is my mother.

This post back in the archives sort of describes her.

Sue, no pictures, but I keep threatening.
Just picture a cross between the Quaker Oats Man and a Red Hat Lady.
