The Color Purple... finally...

Hoping the fourth attempt at this is the charm
****
The inspiration for this week's table is
the newlywed niece.

It's a  special week for her, you see.
Not only did she have a birthday...

It's also marks the date that she
convinced that husband of hers to marry her.

So as a surprise to one of my favorite people,
this table is inspired
by a few of her favorite things.
She'll probably be even more surprised that we didn't raid her home to do it.

We started with her favorite colors
purple and green

Then we added yellow because we wanted to.

That cloud of white is her bridal veil, of course.

Here's how it all stacked up.

We started with festive yellow chargers
and added dinner plates
which are actually decorative
plates from her room.

They match the bouquets of iris.
Of course, you can't see that
because we added some more plates.

Both the salad plates and bowls
came from our favorite local second hand shop.

The tablecloth is pale lavender.
Her mom made the napkins from remnants of fabric
used to decorate her girlhood room.

We filled the rest with her favorite things

Fabric keepsake boxes from her room
and a teapot from the Duchess.

She has the distinction of being the only member of the family
who prefers a cup of tea over coffee.

She started collecting glass paper weights
when she was a very young girl.

That's her place.
It's a  snail.
'Nuff said.

A gorham china doll from another collection

... sitting on top of some favorite old books...

...and sitting beside what I'm pretty sure is her
favorite thing of all.

Him.

So there you go, birthday girl.
A table scape of your very own.
Just what you always wanted.

Thanks for being such a great inspiration.

Wonderful and worth the wait, Debbie! You really make me want to go out and buy more dishes .... like having four full sets isn't enough? LOL!

I'll try my comment again. I love your inspiration but I'm afraid I'm a bit prejudiced. You captured the essence of my daughter beautifully. Thanks for trying so many times to get this table up as it is absolutely lovely.

The snail paperweight speaks volumes. Just sayin'...

So beautiful! What a sweet and loving tribute and I know I would like her if Anne of Green Gables is one of her favorite books...was there some Raspberry Cordial at this party? :-)

Hi Debbie
I am sorry that you are having so much trouble with blogger. I tell my husband often that he is very lucky that he is not scooping the computer out of the pool along with the leaves. I often want to chuck it there!!
Anyhoo ~ your table is lovely, and such a sweet tribute to your niece. Beautifully done as always.
Blessings

Debbie, what a pretty and meaningful birthday table! I love the way you've included memorabilia from your niece's life, and the mixed dish patterns look just perfect together! Adding the napkins from the familiar fabric was a great idea, too!

I'm hoping this comment will post. Yes, crazy things have been happening here and I've tried to add three comments since Sunday's post, so we are both tied and aggravated! I'm hoping the fourth time is the charm...

Lovingly adding this one though. Thanks for the thought provoking Paul post and for the birthday tribute to your sweet niece. They are both just extra lovely in every way. May I also add praiseworthy as well! Love you.

What a touching and heartfelt tribute to your niece!!! The details proves that you really pay attention to her style and personality. I can't think of a greater thing! Love the snail!!! And your napkin fold is impeccable! Absolutely perfect!!! A side note...I just had trouble on someone else's blog when I tried to add a comment. The screen just suddenly went blank. Must by a Blogger issue all 'round. Weird. At any rate, your table is beautiful and I wish your niece much happiness on her birthday and throughout her marriage. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier. I'm so glad you liked it. I so value your opinion and love to hear from you. Have a wonderful week!

I would never have thought of adding yellow to this table, but those chargers look great! This is such a pretty birthday tribute. Maybe I should tell you when my birth date is! Love that you used her bridal veil, and what a beautiful couple they are. I think maybe that store where you got those plates would be a favorite of mine too. laurie

Hi Debbie,

So nice to hear from you. I have looked at your posts several times in the past. Everyone says I talk a lot too, so we're kindred spirits. I just love your tablescape!! Purple irises are one of my favorite flowers, and I love that you you used lavenders as well. The yellows and greens are the perfect complimentary colors. I love the green boxes, the glass snail, the gingham napkins, the china doll, and the books (I am all about books). You did a great job.

Hugs,
Denise

What frustration, Debbie - however, the finished product was worth the wait. (May I just surmise that Blogger is not going to be a simple pleasure this week??)

Though I don't decorate with these colors, I'm a big fan of purple and green together. I loved all the little personal touches - but, I HAVE to have the "back story" on the snail...pretty please!

Happy Birthday to the Newlywed Niece - and her Knight in Shining Armor.

And kudos to an aunt that has just the "right touch" always - except when she's trying to post pictures...

xoxo

Okay, so will the talented trio become the formidable foursome? Does she love design as much as you all do? I love all the personal elements that you've used in your tablescape....and the napkins made from remnants of fabric from her room....that makes my heart sing. Did she get to take the napkins home for a birthday gift? So cool. Thanks for sharing this charming party and for stopping by my post. It appears that we have a mutual admiration society. Cherry Kay

Morning Debbie,
What a lovely idea, tablescape, and way to honor your neice. Very pretty and very meaningful.
I am sure she enjoyed it very much.
Love the purple and lavendar. My daughter-in-law to be will have the same colors in her Wedding,
and use spring bouquets. Can't wait to see it all, I am sure it will be beautiful.
Thanks for coming by and happy you liked my
red kitchen table.
Blessings for a great day hon,

Well that is just fabulous! Those colors are wonderful together, and all the details you put in really make it special and unexpected. But I always expect you to do something unexpected! Well it seems that the French Countryside is a bit larger holding 8 cups, while the others are 4-5, so that might make that one a front runner. Every time I sit down I have to getup and get something so getting the coffee pot on the table will be wonderful!

It's gorgeous!!!! Love the color combo. I love the details that fit her personality. The teapot, I loooove! Everything is so....inspired. What a beautiful photo. So, so sweet!

That was very special of you to do for your neice. None of mine live close by. Of course, I loved the purple. I couldn't tell what brands your dishes were. Wish I had a second hand store that had china - none in my area. I don't have a Home Goods either. I'm sure your neice appreciated the special effort and details you did for her. You are a lovely Aunt.
