Great is Thy Faithfulness

This post has been a year in the making. (Actually a little over a year since I tried to work on it last week, but those wonky computer gremlins played havoc with the pictures.)

On February 14th, 2010, we had a rare sticking snow for these parts.  Early in the morning, I stepped out in my pajamas and slippers to capture it.  I didn’t figure anyone else was awake.

I was wrong.

As I stood in my bedhead glory, the front door across the street opened, and out stepped my neighbor with his own shiny Kodak.  I briefly considered a getaway, but 48 year old women should not  run on the snow in slippers. It's a rule.  I held my ground and faced the music.

I'm glad I did.  He told me that his favorite part about living on our street was the way the Bradford pears lining it changed with the seasons. He had captured them in every season,  he said, and now would get to add a winter wonderland.  He was planning to group them together as a photo story.

I decided right then and there to be a copycat, and I’ve been capturing shots, standing in the same spot, all year. I do try to remember to be fully clothed when I do it, though.

Winter…

Spring …

Summer…

Fall…

And back to winter
This is what it looked like on February 14th
when I brought my photo project to a finish.

Had it not been for the computer chaos, I would have stopped right there with the barren season.

But within just a week, look who showed up.

Our old friend Hope.

And I just couldn't leave her out.

Summer and winter
And springtime and harvest
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Great is Thy faithfulness…

I know you probably won't believe this, but while I was reading I was thinking about the trees having buds on them right now. I didn't know you'd include them, but you worked them in too. So, based on our conversation yesterday, our thoughts certainly needed a budge toward hope. I'm ever so grateful that God provided some hope for both of us today. I think I'll go out to my yard and give thanks for his provision and for you. Hugs to you today.

The changing of seasons? $500 airline ticket...The winter in the Southwest? Priceless!!

I loved your photos. I lived in Tucson for over a decade and one year it snowed on Easter Sunday! I couldn't believe my eyes.

Thanks for stopping by. Oh, and you're always welcomed to come down...I'll make a special trip to take you to the ocean seaside!

How fun Debbie! I've often thought that a year in pics would be neat. Maybe the same bird house or yard ornament, this just proves it:@)

What a great project to undertake, I started something similar with shadow shots taken in the local churchyard but I'm only halfway through the year.

Hi Debbie, I too am blessed to see the Bradford Pear trees change, and always look forward to seeing them change with each season. Every day as I walk I see the same hope as it is coming forth. Thanks for such a beautiful post.

Oh Debbie - This was just so beautiful. I really needed this right now - I just found out that a dear friend's dog has just been diagnosed with cancer. I've been crying...

What a great message you have given me. That God's faithfulness is there, all the time. Through every season, even in the barren ones. How I need to lean on Him, lean into Him, right now.

I am so glad that you're my friend - and I am so grateful for your presence in Blog Land. This was a lovely and almost poetic post. The pictures were special - creation points us to the Creator, and His message of Hope in the many beautiful shades of His seasons...

GOD BLESS!

Hootie Hoo my friend! I just think I'm going to keep saying that all year round! I love this idea and was thinking about a few places around our house where I could try and do the same thing. Of course, I need to actually remember to do it which may be a challange! But your photos are exquisite and I have been so happy to see our old friend Hope paying us a visit here in the NW too. :-)

Debbie,
You feed me spiritually, providing me with pictures and words to ponder. Thanks for being a doer, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22) Your stunning images of your amazing trees through the seasons are such a sweet reminder of having faith in our creator. Oh the hope of Spring, I'm feeling it! Just once, I dare you to turn the camera on yourself. I'm dying to see your bedhead hair, robe and slippers!

I'm hoping to make up for lost posts the next few days. We have been entertaining over the holiday, so I have some catching up to do. Hope your hubby likes the chicken. Mine sure does! Hugs from IDAHO...

Oh I love the idea of taking the same picture each season - I am going to think of a place to do that too.

Your area you took a picture of is beautiful.
Love the fall, spring, and HOPE!

Ohhh I loved getting to see a splice of what you see in your neck of the woods! Thank you for showing us in all those times of year. I think this year for a picture project I will do the same idea. To take a picture of the same spot but different seasons and then to frame it is so fun. *grin*

Oh my gracious! I want to live on your street! How beautiful!!! I live in a fairly new subdivision so we are missing pretty trees that are fully grown. Bradford Pears are one of my very favorite trees! I love them!!!! You did such a great job! Such beautiful pictures! God is so good!

What kind of camera is your shiny red Kodak? It takes better pictures than my plain ole black Kodak!
