Practically Grown

You may have noticed that I rarely if ever post on Sundays. I basically set my Sundays apart to  rest from almost everything, even blogging. Besides, I'm too busy grazing around the family table to waddle to the computer.

But sometimes, a date is so ingrained in the calendar that it practically demands a yakabout even if it does fall on Sunday. Sometimes, a date is practically impossible to ignore.

Today is such a day. Care to guess why?

It's April 10th, one of my favorite days of the year. It marks the anniversary of the day that I began The Great Mommy Adventure, the birthday of my first born daughter, The Practical One.

The Practical One was born 22 years ago on a Monday afternoon. Outside, the rains were driving and the winds were raging.  We could have named her Stormy Gale, had that kind of a name passed muster with the Duchess.

 It didn't.

It didn't matter anyway, because I was completely oblivious to what was going on outside. From where I sat, there was nothing but sunshine. The girl has been lighting up my life ever since.

We call her The Practical One because she has always been a bit on the serious side. She was given the grace gifts of intellect and compassion...

...a listening heart and a helpful spirit...

And in this mom's unbiased opinon, a great loveliness as well.

I thought she might use her gift of intellect to provide for Good Old Mom in her old age, and I mentioned as much to God.  I suggested a geriatric dentist... or maybe a plastic surgeon.

But noooo.

She's getting a degree in psychology.
Maybe she'll become a therapist.

I report. You decide.

So Happy Birthday to my very Practical Daughter.
No matter what you grow up to be,
you will always, always be my little girl.

Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel  them all.
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

~Proverbs 31:29-30 NASB

Happy Birthday to your precious daughter, Debbie. She is adorable, and I loved hearing all about her from her adorable mom. Beautifully stated and the perfect scripture. I know you are proud of her accomplishments just as she is proud of the fact that you're her mom.

Happiest Birthday to a very lovely daughter!! You have much to be proud of! She is beautiful on the outside - and it sounds like she is just as beautiful on the inside!

She will make a wonderful, caring therapist - and people will be tremendously blessed by both her intellect and her compassion - by her listening heart and helpful spirit. God knows what He's doing.

Enjoy the day!!

(p.s. How can she be 22? I'm doing the math - you're only 29, right???)

Oh, Debbie,
I've been feeling kinda down today but reading this post on your beautiful daughter has lifted my spirits! Is there anything better than a little girl who grows into a beautiful woman? My two have brought me such joy and I know that yours have brought the same joy to you. Love the pictures and this post. Happy Birthday, Stormy Gale!

Happy Birthday to Miss Practical. Practically perfect in every way! I loved all the pictures. They bring back such wonderful memories. She looked just like a Precious Moments Doll when she was little and now a Precious Moments woman. Maybe when she starts her own practice she can help her ailing family!! Hugs to my beautiful niece and her wonderfully gifted mom!

Oh Debbie, this is so sweet--she is beautiful--one of my sons is a family and child therapist in Tulsa, Ok--he loves his job.

I love the picture of her in the ruffled bonnet. That would have been how I would have dressed a little girl had I ever had one--just beautiful and classic.

Thank you for your sweet comments over at my place. There is really no way to describe what is happening--the videos and articles just can't do it justice. But we pray that it sweeps across our nation and does not get a name of a "Summit thing" but that all the glory goes to God. He alone is worthy.

Love you,

You have two amazing daughters. (Pardon me while I slip into an uncharacteristic colloquialism...) Ain't no doubt about that. ;)

I can't think of a group of women who more characterize the Proverbs 31 woman than your entire family of wonderful ladies. You are blessed and you are a blessing.

I pray that some day I see Proverbs 31 women in my daughters as well. What a joy!

That's such a sweet post and happy birthday to "the practical one", your beautiful daughter.

Thanks for your lovely comments. I had to laugh when you said you kept your inspirational magazine pages till they were out of style. LOL mine too! Most of mine are from around 1995-2000. So they are definitely out of style, but then so is my house. I'm trying to bring it into the current century without changing my love of traditional decor.
Hope you have a great week. We're off to the garden center.

Feel as though I've watched MD grow up -- after all our years with our little online family. She's lovely and I know has her mother's loving and caring heart.

Happy Birthday, MD!!

Happy Birthday to your gorgeous daughter! And, I would venture to say that as girls model what they see from their mothers, much of her loveliness (inside and out) is a testament to you. :-) Oh, and I guess we could give your hubby some credit too, huh? LOL!

I love her just from your beautiful description. And my personal opinion, leave plastic surgery to the visionaries. I for one would much rather counsel with a practical one!

Blessings, Debbie
