At the Table of Grace

I wasn't completely sure that I was going to show a table this week, but then I kept playing with that vignette that I was working on last week and kind of fell in love with it. Thanks for all your suggestions by the way.

It hopped back and forth from side table to mantel. Then, I had a notion to bring it to the dining room while the girls were home for an Easter weekend table.

Here it is.

Actually, that's not my dining room table. It will eventually make its way there, but I'm just not a solo act.  Unfortunately, the Duchess is housebound with a knee injury.  I had no choice but to load up my stemware, and linens, and dishes, and accessories and play with dishes at her house.

I brought the inspiration too.
It was inspired by the book
 One Thousand Gifts

It's a table of  gratitude...

And  grace.

That's not a place card.
The grace of God is the centerpiece
of the Easter table.

The rest is just decoration.

The floral salad plates are mine.
I found them at  TJ Maxx.

I was planning to use some other blue plates to sandwich between the white when the Sister offered up with these perfect turquoise ones. She bought them at the local grocery store.

This is why I love a group project, folks. So much better than what I had planned.

Brown ruffly placemats.
They're supposed to look like nests.

The sister gets credit for that too.
The flatware?  It belongs to The Duchess

The stemware belongs to me. It's Aurora Blue by Denby and has been a fixture in this house since the Great Wedding Adventure of '84.

I love the sunshine on those napkin rings. It makes them look like a sea of glass. They belong to the Duchess. I think she got them at Bed Bath and Beyond.

The cross stitched napkins are mine, though. They're a treasure made by my grandmother. It's actually a butterfly. You can't tell when it's scooched up like that.

Eggs painted blue
to match the ones on  the book.

There's absolutely no reason for this shot other than the fact
that I thought it looked cool with the egg in the glass.

Brown candle sticks from Willow House belong to me.

But those turquoise blossom votives belong to the Sister.

That slick-eared bunny doesn't belong at all.

The Sister stuck it there to see how long it would take me to notice. Then she stood there with the exact same pose and expression. She's such a twerp.

Growing up, her nickname was Thumper.

He got the thump.

That about sums it up. It was definitely a shared effort
and creative therapy
 for a stir crazy Duchess.

The table in the sunlight...

And by candlelight

And even though it was set it for my family,
won't you join us too?

You're always welcome
at the
The Table of Grace

I'll be sharing this for Tablescape Thursday
and for Seasonal Sundays

I think the Duchess and my mother would get alone fine. I also think it is time for the Duchess to start her blog, as I have been trying to get my mother to start a blog.~smile~
Wishing you and your dear family a most blessed Easter.

Beautiful, beautiful! I saw those same plates at our TJ Maxx and thought they were lovely too. I still want to know your storage secrets for all of your dinnerware and linens. Just bought a set of transferware...three sets of dishes to store in my tiny kitchen now!

The blue/white/brown combination turned out really pretty. Many thanks for your inspiration tabletop. Aren't we so thankful that we also share our grace in the SONshine?

I'm so excited to have everyone home for Easter (well, our soldier won't be home). Wish the Duchess were up for her annual Easter egg hunt extravaganza but will settle for her being able to come to church with us. Hugs sister for your inspiration.

PS I always thought the design on those napkins was a flower but I don't think I've ever really looked that closely. They really are beautiful

Hi Debbie, I just want to tell you how much I appreciate your comment at the Back Porch. You absolutely recognized something I have been trying to do over the last month or two. Getting back to the real Pat and J and their home. It started with the kitchen area redo and went forward with the living room redo. I am hoping all my posts will soon reflect our real home and events in our lives, rather than trying to fit a certain mold (that can get expensive!).
I began this year reflecting on the notion of continuing the Back Porch or taking it down. I think with the changes and the change of seasons, I might be able to keep it all going.

And now to your gorgeous table. The colors are amazing, the photos beautiful! I love it all.

Oh just so beautiful and inspiring. I love every bit of it and I am sure Duchess enjoys it being in her house...what a joy!

Now give me the practical of using your table..remember I am a mother of five boys...how do you serve with all the plates...do you serve that many courses? Do you start from the top plate and go down with each course? Just curious...my boys just laugh at me, eat the meal in the wrong plates and we have plates all over the place as the move them out of their way...just wondering how it works.

Happy Easter...love the napkins from grandmother

How nice of you to haul all these to your sister's house. She will definitely feel better after seeing the table. I love the play pof colors. Your plates are so pretty and so are all the accessories, love the mix of texture too.....Christine

Debbie said...

Oh my dear Janette, there's nothing at all practical about the table. LOL

That's why we usually do them for invisible people and why half that stuff comes off if and when it's used for real meal. (Remember too that I have girls who will say "oooh that's pretty" instead of boys who will try to crack and eat a faux egg.)

I can and do leave stuff in the middle, though. Our table is bigger than that one. Plus for our family of four, I never serve family or farmhouse style. We always fix plates in the kitchen and bring them in, even when we're having a casual meal in the kitchen.

To be completely honest, I hate washing dishes. Adding serving bowls to the mix just wigs me out completely. Plus, it helps with portion control. When that food is sitting in front of me, I have no check valve whatsoever...

And Elizabeth: We spread the wealth among three houses, four if you count the newlywed niece. I should maybe do a post on all the cupboards and nooks and crannies. hmmm.

Oh Debbie! It's beautiful, it just speaks to me! I've been on a blue kick lately, which is hard since my whole house is reds, yellows and blacks. But I am trying to work it into the new kitchen. This tablescape is just fabulous...and a tribute to it's "makers" and The Maker...what could be better than that! I love the word GRACE spelled out and the photo of the egg through the glass is wonderful. Beautiful artistry my friend. Happy Easter Season to you!

Debbie - I liked Thumper!! Now he's all sad, sitting somewhere crying at being left out. Tell him that we invisible people would love to have him at our table!! (By the way, older sisters love to be twerps - just sayin').

Are we just the luckiest people or what?? God invites us to the table of Grace - and sometime in the future, we've got a place setting at the Wedding Feast of the Lamb! I can't wait!!

Loved the lighting in your photos - the subtle look was really nice.

Thumper liked it...for awhile.
